  • Is the GTI and 118TSI Exhaust the same?

GTi exhaust same as 118TSI exhaust?

Like i can fit GTi exhaust on a 118TSI?

I've edited the thread to give more meaning to the title.

To answer your question, I would say that the answer is probably no. I haven't compared them in person, but I would think if you could fit the same exhaust to both cars, then companies like APR would sell their exhausts to fit both models instead of just the GTI.

The ends of the pipes at the very least are different. the 118 has the two coming out the left side, the GTI has one on either side.

If i change the rear bumper to a GTI bumper, then the exhaust will fit?

I looked at some photos of them and their mountings and size are fairly close, teh difference might be the pipe diameter, but then an apdator should fix the problem, isnt it?

I think of more concern would be at the engine end. Whether the GTI exhaust will attach to the turbo of a 118TSI....

Why don't you just get a custom exhaust made up?? Save you stuffing around with one from a different model.

Meh - the concern with custom exhausts is that since they don't do lots of prototypes and testing, they always seem to end up with lots of cabin 'drone'.

Actually it is going to be turbo back or just the rear...

Just like to make the 118TSI rear looks like a R or GTI...

If that is the case, just give Derek at European Autotech a call and ask him.

APR have a RSC 3" Performance Exhaust System which can be purchased as a 'cat-back' system. It may be able to be fitted to the 118TSI to achieve what you would like to do, as long as the undercarriage of the 118TSI doesn't differ from the GTI. I'm sure Derek could let you know whether it's possible or not.

                  You'd then either need to:
                  1) Cut a hole in the right side of your 118TSI's rear valance - or
                  2) Acquire a GTI rear valance (if it fits the 118TSI's rear bumper) - or
                  3) Acquire an entire GTI rear bumper/valance assembly.

The front section is completely different as the turbo on the 118TSI is on the side of the engine that faces the front of the car (and goes underneath the engine) while the turbo on the GTI is on the side of the engine that faces the back of the car. As mentioned above the exhaust on the rear is different due to the twin exhaust tips on the GTI. So basically none of the components are the same.

I was following a GTI last night, and my wife's car is a 118TSI. I think all you would have to do is change the rear muffler. The outlet pipes seem pretty much part of the HUGE rear muffler in both cases. You may have to make up a pipe to connect the GTI muffler to the 118TSI muffler inlet pipe, but that would appear to be all.

+1 - By the time you get a new rear valance and an exhaust you would be pretty close to the cost of a GTI anyway and it wont add any value.

Everyone will know your car isn't a GTI even if you add a GTI badge, exhaust (which will most likely diminish performance on your car) and valance as soon as you press the accelerator pedal.

Sorry... I mean cat back not turbo back...

A 118TSI with DSG + chassis control RRP is about 37000.
A GTI with DSG + chassis control RRP is 49000.

A rear valance only cost 350 and painting is optional.

How is it close? Also a TSI will have more room for negotiation then a GTi, which ill make the gap further.

Dont get me wrong, I would like an GTI or a R, but just got too many other commitment to spend the extra 10-12k...

I just like the look of the twin rear exhaust only... Possibly can get a used GTi exhaust from Dereck.
