Average time between ordering and receiving a build date

Hi,

I've ordered a Golf Wagon late March and have yet to receive a build date.
When I ordered the car I understood there would be a 4month-6month wait how much of this wait is
actually waiting for the car to be built? Could people please let me know how long they have had to wait
before receiving a build date? So I know to be either 1) more patient or 2) start bugging the dealer.

I ordered my Tiguan 28 January.
Dealer didn't have any updates for me until 19 February when i got a factory commission number
Next update was 7 April with my VIN and the car was already on a boat for a week and a half.

I politely asked me dealer every 2 weeks if they had heard any more news on my car.
Best not to be aggressive and just ask politely for your own interest as you have put down a large sum of money.

The wait will depend on when the next build schedule is for the model you have ordered.
Even though i orderd in January, the tiguan buiold's weren't scheduled to begin until March.

Dopey, I'll put up the details (have to find them first) but I paid around $39,900 for the 2.0L TDI with towbar, rear sensors (only), car mats and boot mat, metalllic paint. We got a corporate discount too. Don't think it was a fantastic deal but semi-reasonable.

I ordered my GTI on the 9th February and had a second drive on the 27th of March when the dealer told me it would be a week 16 build.. I believe week 16 was last week 18th to 24th April. He said it was scheduled to be delivered to the dealer (estimated) on 24th June with a mid July pick up for me...

I've been patient and haven't contacted the dealer since March so just might give him a ring to see whether my car has been built....

To answer your question...

I ordered my car on the 08/03, it was handed over to production on 31/03. They started building the car on the 16/04 and finished on the 20/04. Left the production plant on the 21/04 and now, to the best of my knowledge it is sitting at the ports in Germany.

So all up around 6 weeks from order to the car being actually completed.

I ordered mine on 16/3. At the time of order I was advised it was scheduled for week 17. Got confirmation it was built on 21/4 which is week 17.

It took almost 4 months from build to delivery for my Passat CC last year. I was extremely patient, I don't think I even called to check when the car was delivered, I literally waited for their call (just before Christmas) that the car was ready!

The best thing to do IMHO is ask the dealer for a realistic (maybe even pessimistic) delivery date and write it down in the contract - perhaps even making the contract subject to delivery by the particular date.

Then just be patient and wait for the call.

Hcv01, I assume you have a VIN #. Does it appear on the tracking site? My number starts with WVWZZZ1KZAW39... I can't find any records bar one when I search for WVWZZZ1KZAW39%. What about yours? Is your number on the 39% or 38% seeing that our built day is only 1 day apart. Maybe I just missed the boat.

Hi ctan, yes I do have a VIN and it is a WVWZZZ1KZAW39...

According to my paperwork the car should have arrived at Bremerhaven on the 26/04. I am hoping that it will catch today's boat which is the QUEEN SAPPHIRE else it will be on either the TIJUCA (departs on the 06/05 and arrives on the 22/06) or the TOSCANA (departs on the 07/05 and arrives on the 16/06).

I have contacted the logistics company that does the shipping and they have told me that you are not able to track the car until it has been loaded on the vessel and even then give it a few days.

Fingers crossed that both our vehicles are on the QUEEN SAPPHIRE (which incidentally is being loaded now...BLG LOGISTICS GROUP:)

All going well I'll have the keys on or about the 24th June... That's less than eight weeks. I'll have to get serious about selling my current car soon..

Hey Tux,

I got an email from my dealership with ETA data and it stated that the car left Germany on the 29/04... and arriving in Melbourne on the 09/06. So by my calculations it must be on the Queen Sapphire. I have tired tracking it but to no avail.... if it is on there our cars are probably next to one another

And if all goes well I will be in my car on the same day as yours... That means there will be 2 more happy GTI owners
