Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • GOLF GTI MK6 Air Recirculation button

Does anyone have the problem where you can't puch the air recirculation buttton ? The little car with the arrows in a circle to keep the vents closed.
...
When I push it nothing happens it doesn't light up.
...
Am i missing something ?
...
It doesn't auto close the vents as I can still feel the heat from the outside and also smell the fumes etc.
...

Seems to work with mine.
Only thing is that it resets to 'off' once the car is switched off ie need to re-activate it again

Hi,
there are 2 modes apparently, manual rec and auto rec. press the button once for manual and twice for auto. auto mode stops the auto ac from switching to manual ac and automatically detect smells and switch from outside air to rec. I find that sometimes exhaust smells from other cars still enters in either rec mode. but at other times I sit in heavy traffic for long periods without an issue.

sorry cant give a definitive answer, but I wonder if the rec buttons works at times as well.

cheers

there are actually 3 modes. Vent/re-circ/re-circ-auto where a pollution sensor in the cabin air filter control recirc function.

How are people finding the auto mode? Do you find that it shuts things off BEFORE you get a whiff of the clapped out Mitsubishi Sigma belching out black smoke in front of you at the lights?

Paulcito,

So when your driving without the AC or Fan on you can engage the recirculation button ? It lights up to show it's active ?

I just got my car back from VW dealer and he states it can't be done, unless the AC is on or the Fan is on.

If you can confirm this i'll send it back to them advising another GTI owner can.

If the air con unit is Off, then none of the buttons work. You have to leave the unit On, but you can have the AC Off to enable fan only mode.

If the whole unit is off then the button will not work. If the unit is on and you press the button the modes start working (light turns on).

I always find myself pushing lots of buttons trying to get fan-only outside air, as the car seems determined to run the A/C regardless. One day I'll figure it out (so much for my edjukashun).

re: GTI Mk6 Air Recirulation Button Auto & Manual

Hello members

just a question, the button which has a symbol of a car and an arrow circulating around it and a symbol "A" around it..

when i press the button with a symbol "A" around it, the button is lit when you next start up your car, but not the one without an "A" around it.. i have to literally press the button each time when i get into the car.. Does anyone experience this before to?

also i find that the air recirculation button with "A" doesn't seem to keep the air nice and clean, i can still smell fumes and odours coming into the cabin, but not with the button without an "A"..

hope i did not confuse you guys and gals

Isn't it in the manual? You answered the question with your thread title. The A is automatic recirculate mode and the other is normal recirculate mode (ie all the time). There is a sensor behind the bonnet under the windscreen wiper on the drivers side that detects fumes etc and switches the car to recirculate to stop you from coping most of them but as it's like your nose it can't prevent the fumes that have passed it from getting to you.

All Volkswagens default to fresh air or automatic recirculate on startup as it's not advised to run recirculate all the time.

The automatic recirculate mode was explained to me by the dealer on delivery. Just another clever feature.

Maverick, does that mean don't press the air circulation button at all whether it's manual or auto.. just leave it off and when there is fumes detected, the air circulation button will be automatically lit means it has been turn on..

IIRC you don't touch it and it will be in auto mode which is allowing air in from outside unless it detects fumes. If you press it you're manually switching to recirculate mode until you turn it off or cycle the ignition. The indicator on the button won't change when it swtiches recirculate on and off.
