Are these exposed wire behind the accelerator normal?

The wires behind the accelerator on our Wolfsburg built Mk5 GTI are also exposed, same as described by the OP.

Does look a bit untidy.

Same deal in my German built MKV Pirelli.... bit of electrical tape would hide it if you're concerned. Looks to be part of the button under the accelerator pedal that is used to register when you put your accelerator all the way to the floor.

There is one exception - the Mk6 Golf Wagon is built in Mexico.

Its not a big deal but im just wondering where i heard it from that the 5 Door GTI's are built in RSA??

I believe 5 door MKVs were built in RSA. 3 door MKVs were built in Germany. The exception is the Pirelli edition which were all built in Germany regardless of how many doors they had.

I'm not sure about R32s though...

Even my Jetta has these wires showing. But who has their head down near the acceleration anyway? Doesn't bother me or the wife.

Well I had a RSA built 5 door Mk5 for 4 years and never noticed the wires. But all that says is I never noticed the wires - not that they were not there, just I never thought to look down when my foot was planted to the floor or when I was cleaning the car and none of my passengers probably had their eyes open to notice or thought to mention. Will certainly look when my Mark 6 arrives next month.

Yeah - they were on the MKV's regardless of whether built in RSA or Germany. I knew they were there on my 3 door Wolfsberg built MKV, but it didn't worry me.
As someone said, if it is a worry, just put some black electrical tape on them or something. Just make sure it doesn't foul the movement of anything.

This was one of my first "mods" as it was mildly annoying (once you notice).

The "fix" is simple, use some interior fabric adhesive tape to cover the exposed wires, unplug the connector and wrap away. The tape is OEM so looks identical and won't stick out like electrical tape.

You can buy a small 10m roll from your spare parts department which is enough to perform the "mod" 800 times.

Fabric Adhesive Tape for wiring looms and harnesses - this stuff is great, I buy it by the 50m roll as it's so handy for any new looms or additions to harnesses as they look oem and it keeps them neat. I've used around 100 metres in my car so far.

It's a bit concerning now that paying this much for a car and now finding out all these "issues" with it.
I am not detered from it either way but maybe the car being built in RSA (5 door) is the cause of the problem??

When they did make cars in South Africa they were IDENTICAL to the cars made in Germany, nearly every single part including the chassis, the trim, the electronics, the seats, the wheels, the tyres, the gearbox, the brakes, the headlights and so forth were shipped from Germany. The car is built almost entirely via robot with humans having very little involvement in the process.

As for it being an issue........... geeez I'm not looking forward to you getting your car (and neither will your dealer) if you consider this an issue. What else is an issue? A 1mm bigger gap between the door and the dash on the passenger side? I suggest not looking and pointing it out to the dealer when you pick up the car.

It's pretty simple. You have a bundle of cables that are wrapped. When the cables are installed the wires go through a tight bend and into the accelerator pedal. If they wrapped the cable all the way to the end you would still see some cable plus it could end up unravelling and looking untidy so they finish the wrap a few mm back. You can fix it as I mentioned or you can enjoy the car and not worry about something that poses no risk to the driver or the car, it's not going to explode, the wires will not detach themselves and electrocute you and neither will they strangle you when cleaning the car.

I've seen the coloured shielding 'exposed' on both my mk5 and mk6. So it seems it's normal and it doesn't bother me either.

I haven't got my car yet so can't comment. I am purely saying "issues" because everyone is bringing these "issues" up.

I am fine with the car as it is and my current car has wires and all sorts sticking out near the pedal. Doesn't bother me one bit.

I think i can see the wires. Are they white? They out of the way so im not worried about it. It's like way behing the accelerator pedal.
