  • Optional 16" factory alloys

    Hey guys,

Has anyone got any pics of any of these babies fitted to a Mk6?

118TSI, DSG, Candy White, Sunroof, RCD510, Dynaudio, USB + iPod cable, Reversing Camera, Adaptive Chassis Control, Prem. Bluetooth, Fogs, Tint and Mats.

What I am planning is to buy the VW 16" Tangis alloys aftermarket (factory price is too expensive), have them sent to the dealer and fitted to my TSI when it arrives in a few months.

I note the standard Cleveland 16" alloy is 6.5" wide and comes with 205/55 tyres. The Tangis 16" is 7" wide. I assume there wil be no problem with fitting the standard tyres to the Tangis alloys. The only problem I can think of is that it might put the speedo out slightly.

What do you guys think ?

There are numerous factory alloy wheel options in the brochure, not sure if they can only be a part of a Sports Pack from the factory, but I don't care either, I am buying the wheels separately and then fitting them on delivery.

The other thing is, that the tyres on those wheels are completely not suitable for replacement of the 16" Golf wheels.

The speedo would be reading 9.2% slower for the speed you're actually travelling compared to the original wheels. The trip metre and odometre would also be out.

            Agreed. Can't fit those.

              Um no, read again.
The 'numerous' wheels on page 31 are part of the 'Volkswagen Genuine Accessories'. As in dealer fitted accessories. Any other wheel you see in the brochure is the standard wheel in a particular model line or option package and has a little comment like "adds panache to the Trendline" or "adds charisma to the Comfortline" etc.

So the comments from our friendly dealer Dermot are correct.

Ha ! Yes, no offence to dear Dermot intended, I am not really differentiating at the moment between factory options and dealer fitted accessories because my car is on order at the moment so it is neither here nor there for me.

Perhaps Dermot can advise what size tyres go on the 16 x 7" Tangis alloys when dealer fitted ?

Turns out it isn't in the brochure.
You could just use a tyre size calculator online to work out which ones to use when compared to the stock wheels/tyres.

Well you SHOULD start acknowledging the difference, because it DOES affect YOU
A factory option will always be significantly cheaper than a dealer accessory. The reason is that the part installed at the time of build. It means that the cost of fitment is included as part of the 'build cost' of your car, and you don't pay for the 'standard part'. In addition, the cost of the option is reduced by whatever the cost of the standard part was that you're replacing in the build. Also, the shipping all the way to Australia is already paid for in the base cost of your car.
A dealer accessory is fitted at your dealer. That means you've already paid for the cost of the standard item and own that. You have to pay for the fitment (which with some accessories takes significantly longer than if you had it fitted whilst the car was being built). The cost also includes shipping. And the cost is not discounted due to the substitution of the standard part.

I have no idea of the cost of 16" wheels, cause I kinda think why bother, but to use the GTI as an example, the 18" Detroits as a factory option are only $1200 including tyres!
All the dealer accessory 18" wheels are $2,882 to $3730.76 without tyres!

That's good news Dermot ! So I wouldn't even have to change the standard factory tyres.

I don't think I agree with that, but to be sure I'd very much like to see some pics of the Tangis (or the Contur or Namib) on a Mk6 !

I take it no one has any ... I have Googled widely with no success.
