  • Auto Closing Sunroof & Windows Tricks and Tips?

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if the following 'tricks' work for the Sunroof on the MK6 GTI, or if they need to be enabled by VCDS at the dealer or something?

    - Auto Closing when Rain is detected
    - Close Windows and Sunroof with the keyfob
    - Open the Windows and Sunroof with the keyfob

I have done a search and found the following thread:

VWvortex Forums: How to Enable Rain-Closing through VAG-COM

But its geared towards the MK5 Golf GTI and not the MK6 GTI.

Does anyone know if those features work from the factory? or if they can be enabled by the dealer? and if so, what the instructions are so I we can show the dealer?

My sunroof will close if you hold down the lock button on the keyfob. This is how my car was configured on delivery. Have not tried the other functions but will test the opening function later today

key opens all the windows (or drivers one) but not the sunroof
you can change settings on windows with build in comfort options (or somewhere in there) but there is nothing on the sunroof

question on a topic, is there way to set up so sunroof closes automaticly when u lock the car?

Here is a video of the MK5 Sunroof closing when water is detected:

YouTube - MkV GTI auto sunroof close feature (vag.com)

So if it was possible on the MK5, it must be possible with the MK6, but does anyone know the settings?

It worked on the MK5 so reasonable to assume it should do on the MK6:

Volkswagen Golf Auto Rain Closing Windows and Sunroof | my-gti.com

You should be able to open/close the windows/sunroof with the stock car by holding down the keyfob, but recoding in VCDS enables you when closing to just hold the button for one second or so instead of the whole time they are closing.

would be good news if it is auto rain closing. we used the sunroof yesterday for the 1st time on our mk6 gti and it is great yesterday evening driving around with it open. but yeah a bit of a worry if forget to close it and if it would start raining ! a lot of electronics inside the golf cabin that probably wont like it !

was the rain closing on the mk5 a setting someplace that you had to turn on ? will try holding the key fob to shut all windows and the sun roof. that is handy in itself if works that way

Doesn't work the same on the MkVI as the coding is completely different to the MkV. I have made inquiries with Ross Tech re the rain closing activation on Vortex VCDS forum http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4720956 but they are unable to help at the moment. The Golf TSI has it listed in the codes and I have enabled it but it still does not work. You also have to hold the keyfob button for the entire time to move the windows up or down.

definitely closes on holding down the key fob, but its not one hold down and release, you have to keep it pressed down untill it completely shuts which is a pain. wish that could be changed.

Anyone who's showing off walking away from their car with the roof opens deserves to get wet LOL.
I've asked Mav about it will have to wait and see.

Funny you mention that... My MINI has a sunroof and I was shuffling cars around one very rainy night at the front of my place and, due to carrying lots of stuff, I put the key in my mouth.. Without realising I opened the windows and sunroof and the car was flooded! I've only done that once...so far.

Yeah it is a nifty bit of VAG-COM'ing so hopefully is possible on MK6. The car still has to be armed and locked though.

With rain-sensing wipers activated and the car locked and it starts raining the windows DON'T automatically close. I had to close mine from inside my office by holding down the keylock until the windows closed. It could be that it requires torrential rain on the sensor before the windows close automatically, but I didn't want to risk driving home with a soggy bottom to prove that it works.
