  • Digital Radio DAB+ and VW Golfs

am an early adopter of digital radio and have owned a digital radio since the early days of the trials, even had one of the pure highway incar units at one stage ! . just wondering with digital radio now up and going pretty successfully with DAB+ as format. If anyone knows if VW has any plans re digital radio and the headunits in the golfs ? I just have the standard non sat nav unit.

I did read some place that in the UK for DAB they had a plug in module. Wondering if there is a chance we might get the same here for DAB+. Or if they have another headunit in the pipeline that is DAB+ capable.

We are trail blazers here re digital radio, Europe is heading that way with many countries eg UK, France & Germany to follow. So do hope there is something on the way. French government has mandated digital radios in their cars from a certain point and makers like ford are going to bring them out as standard for focus, mondeo etc. Are the golf head units made by one of the major OEMS eg VDO ? Blaupunkt becasue if the case good chance something will head our way

As far as I'm aware, there are no plans for DAB+ unit for Australia at this time.

I know the RNS 510 is made by VDO-Continental, rCD310/510 are made by someone else though, can't remember off the top of my head.

I too would love a DAB+ reciever for my car.

if made by VDO then there is hope

I too would love to have dab+ digital radio capability into my gti. I have a dab plus receiver in my hifi system and pretty much listen to koffee

who play a great mix of chill out music, with that and sbs chill on digital radio there is really nothing else like it on the airwaves, rest being either classic rock, commerical pop rubbish or talk back news radio is all else there is to listen to AM/FM.

the nice big screens of 510 head units would be great for digital radio as well given the multimedia capability that is possible with the medium.

wonder if there is some way of lettign volkswagon know this is something be really great to build in as a feature for any future updates ?

I don't know what the story is with DAB, it's certainly mentioned in my Golf user's manual and I was rather hoping that the radio would be DAB capable. However, given the myriad other features mentioned that aren't fitted to my Golf, I guess the manual covers all options for all regions.

DAB digital radio is definitely available overseas with the golfs. why possibly gets a mention in the manual. I believe it is just a dab module which would be useless for us here as we have DAB+ a later gen of digital radio thats not backwards compatible. But anyways why I am hoping they bring out a DAB+ module down the track for our radios here

Either that or a later gen head unit with dab+ capability.
