Gearbox baulks

After about 8000kms I have noticed that when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear (its a manual box) that it the baulks between 1st to 2nd, especially when cold. It also does the same when putting it into 1st gear after stopping. It isn't crunching, just the feel from the gear-shift lever. (not practising my speed shifts either)

Its beginning to bring back memories of the old m21 gearboxes in my commodores, but wasn't quite expecting it in the GTI, is this normal ?
