Do you actually use the DSG, or is it always in automatic mode?

    Yeah. Re-read my orignal post (the one before yours). I edited it an appended the last paragraph a couple of days ago, which explains how to do it.

    • Thanks mate. By "apply basic settings" am I just clicking a button in that section of VCDS or am I entering a value (perhaps 0)? I've not used that part of VCDS before due to the increased amount of damage that *can* be done by messing around in there without a clue (according to the RossTech user guide).
      Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

      • In VCDS go to your Auto Trans controller > basic settings > enter 200 in Group field > press the GO button > That’s it.

        Then close the basic settings window and adaptation counts for both clutches will be reset to Zero. As mentioned from experience I have noticed flushing either 180(k1) or 200(k2) will have the same effect. But be careful not to enter any other number in the Group field or you are on your own

        • Thanks, will try it out on Wednesday probably. Not sure if necessary but will play it safe and ensure the DSG Oil Temp is north of 60 degrees.

          • Went for a quick drive this morning to warm the car up, then the clutch adaption reset trick, before driving to work. It didn't fix the problem, and the return trip this evening was very jerky.

            So I pulled into a quiet street close to home just before, and tried the full DSG reset trick. I didn't receive the expected output numbers, but noticed an improvement (haven't had a chance to apply power in 4th or 6th gear to test yet though - will find out tomorrow).

              This is not an instant fix. The car has to adapt again after you reset it.

              How many times did you drive away from a standstill in reverse on your way to work? I doubt your K2 clutch will improve until the car does this a few times. But any case you can see how many adaptation cycles it has by checking the value of MB200. Could well be zero still. From memory they say a value of 3 means the car has learnt sufficiently. The car will have to see the whole gammut of driving on each clutch before the count goes up. But I'd reckon the standstill start in both directions are most critical for the respective clutches. If it hasn't got that right the rest probably wont be much chop. The learning/adaptation can take a few days.

              • I realise that, and did a couple of reverses in the parking lot, but the drive home was as worse as the DSG had ever behaved, which is why I tried the whole DSG reset - and I have to say from the driving I've done so far it's much better. Will see how long it stays like that and whether or not I can replicate the earlier revving fault or not.

                • Oh well. Hopefully it comes good for you. If it does, there is no way to be sure which method fixed it, given you did them so close together.

                    • I left the lever in D for the last tank, to see if it made a difference to economy.

                      I haven't plugged any numbers into a calculator (I'll do that at tax time) but I think it did make a minor improvement - maybe an extra 20 or 30km before the low fuel light came on, or it may have used about 2 litres less over 750km.

                      On the flip side, I know I've been driving it more conservatively. The transmission seems to shift more slugglishly, particularly 1st - 2nd, it's like it slurs the gear changes, so I'm aware that I've been lighter on the throttle - if feels like a slipping clutch, so I back off. I also haven't enjoyed driving it as much, so I'm going back to manual mode - I'll pay the extra to enjoy the car.

                      • My experience...

                        Having come from a 103TDi manual I like to use manual mode a lot. It feels a bit weird not pressing the clutch etc and the changes seem to take a little longer but I enjoy the manual changing. Also the car is still newish so I like to be able to rev it to the 2.5 3.0 range. I like to use the manual mode to decelerate as well. The gears change too early when left in auto made and I found it stays too long in the gear in S mode.
                        Still, more driving will see me develop a style I like.

                        • I drive it 90% of the time in manual/paddle shift mode.

                          Initially loved the DSG when I was test driving GTIs and R32s. However, definitely going for an 'old school' manual for my next vehicle! Not because the DSG is bad, but because I seek more driving involvement.
