Colour choices...GTI specific ?

Hi guys,

As a new customer to the Volkswagen line, I was drawn to the GTI. Not sure why, it just appealed to me the most I guess...
We all seem to have a pretty good idea now of what are the "hot" items/accessories to get when purchasing, just wondering what is the most popular colour..?
This is mainly aimed at new GTI buyers, as this appears to be the most widely discussed car in the line-up.

Candy White
Tornado Red
Reflex Silver
Carbon Steel
Deep Black

I have seen on some overseas forums where they have a few more choices... Blue is an obvious one which sticks out....
Should we have been offered the full colour range, or is everyone happy with the selection we have down here..?

Also, most of you have cars "on order"....I guess to get the colour you want.
I was quite happy to get mine off the Dealer floor...sure, it limited my colour options, but black was one of my choices...Carbon Steel was my other choice.

I agree that it'd be nice if we were offered the entire range of colours. In Germany specifically, they get over 30 colour options, including yellows, greens, reds, blues, and even purples!

I am also a first time VW owner, and would have really liked the blue metallic as seen on the GTI-R ,

Happy with my Refex Silver, only car dealer had available at the time, so easy choice.

White cars are no good in Canada, because you can't find them when it snows.....

The colour range in the MKV in AU expanded over its lifetime. BG was not available until faily late in the model run.

VW will do the same with the MKVI - to keep buyers interested as time goes by, the will introduce more exterior colours, and surely a larger selection if leathers. Currently it's black or black, and behind the third door is .......black

I chose white, i know it's a common colour, but there's something i love about white hatches (my laser and corolla were white too...) plus - easier to keep looking clean (apparently black is the worst as the colour shows any dirt which lands on it), it was a standard colour with no extra charge, and, weirdly, it's cheaper on insurance. more visible or something... in any case. i love the white.

Interesting that Canada has less options the we do....poor guys.
Gerhard, you are most probably correct. New colours introduced later on will keep interest up there...

Olaf, white is the leading trend so far...and yes, it does look clean.
Had my dealer had the white in stock.......one never knows.....I may have taken that instead.

Curiosity got the better of me so I took a look at the German VW GTI catalogue...

They get a few more than us, but not heaps more..

The colours listed there are -

Schwarz
Candy-Weiß
Tornadorot
Carbon Steel Grey
Reflexsilber
Shadow Blue
United Grey
Deep Black (why not Schwarz?)
Blue-Graphit

Both blues actually look quite stunning, IMO

Out of the colours on offer Carbon Steel is the best, than Black, Silver, Red and White.

I'm quite surprised so many people like white...

I voted for Carbon Steel but I'd struggle to pick between White and Black after that. We got black as its my gfs preference but I think the GTIs look stunning in white.

Not a huge fan of the red personally. I guess for me it would go:

White
Black
Red
Silver

I like the MKV GTIs that came out in the darker grey colour for a while too... more than red or silver.

Before we ordered our car. I used to want white one. On the day we put our order, my wife said we should get carbon steel gray as it's new and special.

Aaah - but you've forgotten something. The VW Konfigurator where you can configure your new car online, and select a few more options than are you the brochure.

Here is a post I did back in November, and I've just confirmed that it is still correct. I translated as many of the names as I could from German into English.

Yeah, you can go to the German site, then to Konfigurator page and GTI and check out the list. I've written them down here for you, but excuse my German to English translation. Not sure what a few of the greens are in English!
