  • Are there any paintless dent removal specialists in the Perth metro area that the WA contingent can recommend? I'm not in any hurry to get my two dents fixed, well that's probably just as well given the amout of work these guys will be faced with right now. I know I can but I wanted to know if anyone has had any dealings with a PDR specialist.

      Hi Frankenstrat,

I have few minor dents on the roof (according to few dent repairers not good place to have them ... they have to remove roof coverage from inside to treat dents but also they have to be careful because of airbags - can be activated with vacuum repair tools).
Per dent it is between $85 and $100 ... plus one of them was asking $280 to remove roof inside coverage.

Damage (dents) on my car was not assessed ... and... I am not sure should be doing anything.

Nobody to recommend but I told them I am going to contact them latter when they repair few hundred cars (become more experienced)
Dents are minor but ... not easy to see them ... but

New Golf on the way, and no long wait to endure.

Put the deposit on a black 118tsi with Sport pack and mdi - metallic paint and mdi included for the same price as I got my previous car for. Very happy.

Arrives in Melbourne tomorrow - delivery around 2 weeks after that....phew!

Thanks everyone for your help and advice, and good luck to everyone else going through the same thing.

Maybe it's this weekend I should invest in a tattslotto ticket?
Good to see it's almost all sorted Nic. One question - did you pay exactly the same price as for the previous car? If so, you have saved another $500 on the metallic paint.

        • Thanks Mirsad, I was washing the windscreen on the Golf this afternoon and spotted another two small dents. I only have one dent in the roof, but with what you're telling me, I may leave that one alone. At $85-$100 per dent, it's not going to be a cheap exercise.

              • Well done Nic, good result. I agree with the guys above on the paint protection too - all the dealer stuff is is basically an insurance policy. As long as you follow the conditions (which state you have to follow a certain routine using certain products) they will repair any paint damage. The reality is, hardly anyone ever follows the routine, so a lot of claims are thrown out anyway.

Do your own research, a clear car bra is the way to go I reckon, as has been recommended.

                • Another Mark 6 (tdi this time) has shown up on the Pickles website.... only done 119ks! (XPA 646), from Burwin Volkswagen.
Like mine, it's hard to see the damage.

Is the owner of of this one a forum member?

                  • I went to see a client of mine today and noticed the receptionist had a really p1ssed off look on her face. The insurance assessor had been to look at her hail damaged 12-month old Mazda 3, and they decided it was worth their time and money to fix the roof. He explained the process was to remove the front and rear windscreens, remove the roof lining, and then attempt paintless dent removal, followed by a light bog and full respray of the remaining pits. Estimated time without car.... 3 weeks! And her car will probably never be the same again.

Needless to say, she was very upset. Nic and anyone else whose cars were written off can count themselves very very lucky.

                    • If the damage is not severe, I think it is a fair call for repair instead of replace.

This is pretty normal - just like if your car was involved in a road accident.

                      • If anyone is actually going to the Pickles auctions in Melbourne on Wednesday, my tsi is going to be auctioned from 9.00am on Wednesday 14th (ironically, the same day my new one is supposed to arrive at Barloworld).
Laverton Nth is nowhere near me, but I'd be interested to know what it's going for - they've actually got it listed as a 90tsi and not a 118. Someone could pick up a bargain!

                          Hi Nic
Is that definitely yours in the pic?
I am looking for a car for my son so I wonder if its easiy enough to buy and re-register in QLD
The glass has all been replaced from the pics. Was there any interior water damage?
Anyone have any experience in registering these cars that have been written off?

                          Thanks

                          • Only the windscreen was smashed as far as the glass goes, and no water damage to the interior as it wasn't completely broken.
Yes, that is definitely my car (complete with bottle opener )
The pic does not show up the panel damage very well however.

There was damage to the bonnet and roof mainly - I suppose you could order in a new bonnet from Germany... but not sure how you'd go about fixing the roof and pillars. There would have been about 50 dents on top of the vehicle. If you know someone in Melbourne who could get better pics, that would be an idea. The car was only 4 weeks old at the time of the storm.
Depending on what it goes for (and considering Pickles think it's a cheaper model), you could do very well for your son...
and I have the second key here still (which I could forward on to you), it you actually buy it!
