  • Buying first new car ..am i getting screwed??

    Hey guys

I started an application to get a new two door DSG Golf GTI Mk6 this afternoon however after reading some old threads and finding this page http://www.my-gti.com/1588 i think I may be getting rectally sodomized on this deal.

The only extras I'm getting are Detroit wheels and the total is 47k.

I've attached a photo of the break down of prices in the deal and was hoping some of you wouldn't mind looking over it and giving me their opinion.

    Breakdown here: http://yfrog.com/j7priceszj

Also in that first price list, are they meant to be prices dealers don't want us to know about or will most dealers happily honor them?

Please excuse my noobness as this is the new new car i have purchased.

    Thanks in advance team!

P.s will a car being ordered impact on the overall price ?

The prices on the my-gti site are the RRP price before dealer delivery and all the state stamp duty, registration, ctp and so on. The laws changed after that was posted and now all prices listed are inclusive of all of these.

There is a great calculator around in this forum somewhere (which I'm sure someone will post the link to) that will tell you what you should pay (ie if it's a good deal).

And after looking at the price you have you will be able to do a lot better with some more homework.

You should be able to get the same price whether you have to order or they have your car "in stock" mate. If they want you to pay more for ordering, tell them you'll walk. Or you can do what I do and just tell them they won't be doing that.

Yeah I'll go and see them on Monday because 47k is not right. I think i just need to push them harder because i could really do with saving a few $$$.

Tried the calculator but it didn't really work for me.

          Hi Jordan.

With the 3 door. Did you option on DSG or Metalic Paint? Becuse they do cost abit extra.

I'm in the same boat as yourself, as I am also looking at a 3 door GTI.

From memory a 3 door GTI with DSG, was $45K drive away with no bargaining on the price. The 18" Rims are $1200.

You should be able to get a few thousand knocked off the price. Generally speaking people on this forum in the spreadsheet that's going around got between a 8% - 12% discount on the final drive away price.

I'll try and find that link for you.

            Here is that spreadsheet:

and here is another thread that people have been discussing their drive away prices in:

Also have you paid a deposit for this car already? That document you posted up seemed pretty official. Generally speaking, you won't be able to bargain them
down on price once you have signed on the dotted line and paid your deposit.

              Hey Pauly.

Yeah it's a three door DSG GTI in candy white so....

I'm now a bit pissed off because I'm clearly paying to much and they knew 47 is over what i wanted to spend.

I'm going to go in tomorrow with a few calculations and putting it to them. If they aren't going to budge in price I'm gonna walk and just go to another dealer.

Yeah i found those last night.

Call me stupid but i couldn't actually get it working correctly for me? Well more specifically regardless of what data i input i could never get the total price back to $0. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?!

Did you get it working okay?

Dude - you should STOP creating so many threads because you keep MISSING people trying to HELP you!

The 'drive away price' for a Golf GTI 3 door with DSG is ~$46,600. That's why your pricing is always wrong, because you're starting with a price about $1k off what is reality. Even the VW site with the optimal '40 y/o with a perfect driving record in a perfect suburb' says $46,000

Dude - welcome to adulthood. You're not getting ripped off, in fact, their price is within a few dollars of the calculation spreadsheet - counting the fact that they've given you a $739 discount!

The drive away price for your car is ~$47,855.

Please stop listening to Pauly because with all respect to him, he is confused.

Here is a link to the GTI price calculator which includes all options and also the stamp duty and other onroad charges. If you have more specific registration and CTP costs, you can also enter those. This spreadsheet is 100% accurate to give you the true on-road prices (if you have the registration and CTP costs which are relevant to yourself). NSW and QLD have the same stamp duty for this particular car.

So given that I've now explained that the dealer is not ripping you off, what do we need to discuss is discount.

If you are a good negotiator and you are serious about purchasing the car, obtaining a 8 to 12% discount is not unreasonable. You have to be willing to work for it though.

Since you're in QLD, if you're in the Brisbane area, you may need to go to the Gold Coast as people have reported having better experiences there...

I'm 100% serious about the car. I just got a fright when i saw a few other posts and how much some other people have paid.

So when you say it's possible to get a 8-12% discount do you mean 8-12% discount off the total drive away price or just the price of the car and it's extras (excluding stamp ctp dealers fees etc)?

As Christopher said - 8 to 12% discount off the drive away price. Excluding the on-roads is a pointless exercise since you're buying a new car and can't get away without paying them

m8, i would recommend contacting david the rep from gosford and see how much the shipping will be ?500-1000. He is awesome bloke and see what price he can do. You might find you still better off coz the brisbane dealers are annoying. The gold coast dealer didnt even have drive away price pricelist and on the same day i went to springwood one they had. GC told me they dont give out driveaway price lists. umm WTF.

Well the place I'm currently dealing with are giving me a decent price for my Polo that I'm trading in so at the end of the day it would be much easier staying with them.

I'm just gonna go in tomorrow and make them think i can't afford it without any more of a discount. Hopefully they step up to the plate and bring it down to the 44k mark.

Worse case scenario i walk and go to another dealer.

It's not like there are a shortage of VW dealers around me.

Plus they wont let a 44k sale go that easy...
