  • Park Assist or Reversing Camera? Or both?

On the MK6 golf if you option on on both the park assist and reversing camera, what happens when you reverse? Do you see the silohette of the car and a video of what's behind you?

Or is it only 1 thing? And if so, can you choose what to see?

With people that have ordered their Golf's with these options, what have you chosen and why?

Seriously - I know Maverick can get a bit excitable sometimes, but he's kinda right man. How many threads do you need to start? You've already got a few threads open where we're discussing the options on your car. Plus, you've just been listening to your friends who have been saying not to get anything anyway...

Have Park Assist (no camera) coming on mine simply because I wanted the front and rear sensors - the Park Assist was a bonus. I passed on the camera because visibility out the back isn't too bad...

Do you read any of the responses to your new threads you keep creating? If you did you would have seen the answer and you wouldn't feel the need to create thread number 8? (I have lost track) for the day.

Seriously posting new threads is counter productive, it makes it hard to find useful information, people will write you off as a waste of time, people won't respond because they have already answered the questions 20 other times and it really turns people off contributing if new users are going to ask the most basic of questions all the time that have been answered 500 times before.

The answer to your question so you don't start another threads is that with later versions of firmware for the headunits yes it does display both and yes it's configurable. However if it comes with an older firmware version (this is likely) you can only flash the RNS 510 at the moment so if you have the RCD 510 your're out of luck.

If you want to see the operation of ANY of the features you have posted about today use youtube as I said earlier to you.

The latest firmware hasn't been released to the Australian market, so even new builds will not be able to use that feature. I really hope this will change in the future. I've just had the latest Australian-approved firmware flashed on my RNS510 and it doesn't allow the dual view nor SD cards larger than 2GB still.

There are cars from the factory coming with later versions however into Australia. I'm not sure what's going on with the versions coming out of the factory and why they're not all the same, it's possible that it's only new cars are coming with the later versions but they haven't released it yet for the older ones in the country due to slight incompatibilities with some revisions of hardware

im sorry but this has to be said.

If you need assistance to park a golf and a camera to see when your reversing you shouldn't be driving a golf, and should invest in a smartcar.

Its not that big people, honestly! Spend the money on something else.. learn to reverse park for gods sake! lol

its not a passat, or an a8 or a q7 or ml !

I'm sorry but it has to be said that your argument is flawed and ridiculous.

The Golf was less rear visibility than all of those cars. The size of the car has absolutely nothing to do with visibility when reversing.

I guess your xray eyes enable you to see children/pets/objects behind your car when reversing because the rest of us mere mortals either have to get out and check and rely on luck or use a camera/sensors to check for us.

I was going to say something but I decided not to.

Perhaps an admin can combine your threads Pauly.

I'm still undecided about park assist but wouldn't mind the camera as it's pretty cheap $500.

But as hoi polloi says the main reason you'd get park assist is for the sensors.

Still think it's a gimmic though and not requ'd on a small car, one or the other would be plenty if you do need it.

If you can't park a Golf maverick im REALLY worried. Its like reverse sensors on a swift, seriously lol

How do truck drivers do it? not all have camera's, usually only over 4.5t do.

You're right, its just a way of extracting money from buyers and making you second guess your abilities as a driver.

The camera may as well for $500 as the badge lifts up and interfaces well with the head unit..

I'd get more enjoyment out of a sunroof than park assist i think as my parallel parking is pretty good.

Truck drivers don't normally reverse their trucks around children and animals or in tight areas where there are low bollards and other obstacles.

As I said and you decided to ignore the rear visibility from a Golf is worse than many much larger cars and 4WD's.

By all means ignore all the evidence and keep your "small cars have no blind spot so don't need sensors and/or cameras" stance. I guess small cars don't need stability control or abs either?
