DSG: Problems, Questions, Likes and Dislikes

      • So a while back I mentioned the DSG playing up going from 2nd to 3rd and basically free revving in N. Had the DSG flashed this week.

        The paper work says it was done according to TPI #2026959/1, they wouldn't show me the info other than to say it was to resolve my complaint. I'm trying to get a copy of it from other sources unless someone here has it already. But I did see that it covered just about anything with a DSG. Old kent wouldn't let me see much else.

        See how it goes from here.

          • i'm not sure if this has been said before, but i noticed something while driving today.

            off the line, the DSG is hesitant for some and not others. mine seems to have its days but then i noticed my driving habits vary (strange but true) and thought it might play a role in this. so what i noticed was, if i'm gentle on the brakes at the light, pressing just enough to stop the car from creeping and not more, the take off is extremely smooth and happens instantly.

            my hypothesis is that there is a point where the clutch engages even when the brakes are applied. this is based on the idea that the clutch disengages when you're at the light and have your foot firmly on the brakes, some claim this is so, others believe otherwise.

            • I have the same experience, I think it's something to do with hill-start assist (the brakes stay on when you release the pedal for up to 2.5 seconds or something). Even if I'm not on much of a hill at all I feel them stick sometimes, so if I want that fast start, I'll release pressure on the brake pedal just enough to stop it creeping as you also do.


              Quick question DSG owners with steering wheel paddles: What mode do you find yourself using most often, D, M, or S? Ever since I've retrofitted the steering wheel with shifters, I tend to use Manual mode a lot more now - almost on every drive. I'll only chuck it back into D for stop/start driving.
              Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

                Does it feel more fun driving with the paddle shifters?? Do you find yourself using it automatically?

                  60% in D mode. This mode is far far better than what I had in our GTI. Almost between what D and S was. Very impressed on my R (MY12)

                  39% with paddles. Whenever I want to have some fun

                  1% in manual mode. Just don't see the need as a mix of D and paddles works do well

                  Maybe straight line take offs or on some dedicated twisties driving I may use manual mode but rare

                  • @Candyman. Do you mean 1% in S mode? Cause the 39% with paddles is the "manual mode".

                    I think I'm probably 50/50 between D and M. I've got the S2TPP DSG Paddles, so they are a delight to use and make things easier (for me). I only ever use S if I'm using LC on the 1/4 mile or competing in the TLGP

                    • I'll start off in D but I find that it shifts up too high (remember I have 7 gears) too early, so on the freeway going to/from work I'll switch to manual since I don't want it going back to D all the time (this is of course only for peak hour traffic where the speed constantly changes). If I need to brake quickly or want some extra power while in M I just double-pull on the left paddle and all is fine.

                      I find that I rarely use S now - perhaps only if I want the absolute fastest launch or if I'm driving in the mountains (which I haven't done in quite a while now), or perhaps when overtaking. If I plan on driving in S mode for any length of time, I'll change the SprintBooster from race mode back down to sport mode, otherwise the go pedal is just too sensitive.

                          Okays... just wanted to clarify as your usage of the terms is different to how others have been using them. Using your usage, I use the paddles 1% of the time, I use manual mode 0% of the time.... even though in everyone else's use of the term I use it manual mode (via the paddles) 50% of the time

                          • My Passat's DSG has done some funny things on me lately, which I never experienced with the Golf DSG. It seems like it wants to bunny hop and gets all jerky when I drive at low speed with little throttle, say at 20kmh with light throttle because I'm cruising down a driveway or something. Seems to especially happen when its cold.

                              • Hi,

                                My DSG jerks between D1 and D2..

                                I've a Golf MK6 2.0 TDI 2009 and I have a problem with the DSG. I've got no time to drive it back to the dealer for a check yet. Basically when I have the car on stand still and I hit the throttle hard, and then shift to 2nd gear, the car jolts. As if I hit a pothole or something.

                                Anyone know this problem and is there a way to fix it?
