  • WHY DOES VW TORMENT ME!?!? I really need help with MK6 GTI Options List...

Okay this is beyond a joke now. I think over the past month I have swapped and changed and tried to convince myself about what Options I do and dont want on my GTI.

I am looking at a 3 Door White GTI.

4 things that are definite are:

NO LEATHER, 18" Detroits, MDI and Reversing Camera.

But then it gets fuzzy and hard to deside.

    - Adapative Chassis Control - (The way I think about it, is that the MK6 was designed with this in mind, or you may aswell get the Mk5)

    - Bi-Xenon Headlights - (I have two minds on this. "Why pay extra for something the car already has...headlights". "You get better vision, they look awesome, they have corning function AND those square cut outs on the bumper will actually be used for something, rather then becoming a painful reminder that I was too cheap to get them..."

    - Sat Nav - I have this in my current car, and I actually use it quite alot. It replaces a Melways, and its safe to keep my eyes off a Melways or my phone (google maps).

    - Dynaudio - I know it would sound better....but really $1300 worth of better?

    - Park Assist - I can park my car just fine, However having the side mirror aim down when in reverse is awesome and parking with no hands is never going to get boring while showing it off to the boys.

    - Sunroof - I dont have one at the moment, so I dont know what im missing, if at all. But for $1900 why not?

Get all of the above .....

I'm getting the same spec, except in Red

Dynaudio apparently Sounds good, but not overly bassy, so I have purchased an additional sub and amp to augment.

What budget do you have for these options?

Can you get all of them (if so, do it), if not, then what's the budget?

I'd 100% be getting Xenon's and Sunroof and then Nav if the budget permits.

            My opinion...
ACC: Really cool idea, but no (limits your future options should you want to change the ride height... and MOAR LOW will wear you down )
Xenon: Yes (but do it knowing that you can't turn back once you get these)
Nav: Yes (if you already use it, you'll miss it)
Sunroof: hell no (but thats just me - too sunny in WA and it is one more thing to creak/add weight up too high.
Park assist: no (side mirror aims down anyway with factory rear sensors - I use this every single day to get out of my narrow, convoluted driveway)
Dynaudio: no (don't care enough about sound, and since you're probably going to playing MP3 anyway... does the clarity really count)

            Edit - I've just described a MK5.
get all the gadgets you want - you won't regret it, and thats a fun part of owning a car on the leading edge.
I honestly believe Park assist will hardly ever get used though - unless you parallel park a lot.

I agree with both nau and elisiX. Firstly you need to ask what's your budget. Secondly, you need to ask yourself, which is the most you want. If you question about it, don't get it.

The Budget was sitting on 55K at the absolute most. I was hoping to do less. Drive Away.

I currently have a reversing camera on my current car and no parking sensors. The question is, with a reversing camera (and from know what ive been told, the side mirror aims down when in reverse without park assist) do you really need park assist?

The music will be coming from MP3's on my iPhone which I will connect via the MDI. So is Dynaudio really worth it over the stock unit? Im going from a car that has 4 normal speakers and 2 tweeters up front.

How many speakers/tweeters does the MK6 GTI have in the stock unit?

My GTI was $57k driveaway .. check my sig for options.

                    I believe I got about 10% discount.

IMO, if you have a $55k budget, get my spec without the Park Assist.

and without the leather too I suppose.

I love those tartan seats way too much.

Easy answer is go no options.
Drops the price a hell of a lot and allows the extra to be spent on go fast bits if you need them (ECU, suspension, tyres, light weight wheels)

Get back to the grass-roots of what the GTI was, a drivers car, not a media centre that drives itself.

                          IMO

ACC - I would have got this but i could drive the car out the door that weekend or wait a few month... i am way to impatient!

Bi-Xenon - They do look good and it is amazing the difference it makes at night but was not impressed enough to buy it

Sat Nav - base on hear/say alone so please correct me if i am wrong, going with a non built in GPS gives you better coverage and upgrade options.

Dyna - I was impressed enough with the standard audio that i did not bother, and when i need more upgrading is fun...

Park Assist - lol no comment

Sunroof - Same story as ACC unfortunately...
Life is a journey... enjoy the ride!

I dont like modifying cars unfortunately. so having the 18" Rims and the ACC will be close to modifying the cars performance.

Also forgot to mention, Insurance is going to need to be thrown in there too.

Being a Male under 25, Insurance is going to be through the roof.

Quick look is that AAMI has the cheapest offering at $1900.
