Hmm... I thought he wanted Detroits, which are 18". Denvers are 17", and they're not the same. I thought question about the 17*7.5's was a 2nd question... oh well... whatever, I'll just move the entire thing to the wheel forum is people want to complain

Sorry for the confusion, I'm after a pair of Detroit style (black inlay) but in a 17''. like these;
Well... as their page says, they come in offsets to suit most VW models
Though why you'd wait to affect your fuel consumption etc by putting the heavy POS china imports that Tempe sells is beyond me. Look out for someone selling a set of genuine VW 17" Denver wheels, and then have them painted to look like Detroits like Ozram did with his 118TSI
Ah, the lovely 18" Detroits - as I have on mine. Look amazing and given I did not drive a 17" specced car, I have no idea what the trade-off is.
However, the two things I have found out (as well know but it's different it 'happens' to you), is because they are machined alloy rims and not standard alloy rims, fixing any kerbing marks is a very expensive business - which is what happens when you lend your car to muppet mates who are not as careful as you. Estimate for a repair to mine as I believe the whole wheel has to be done is about $400 a wheel.
Secondly, after 4 months of use in a brand new car, I chunk of glass split the sidewall. Just bad luck but enough to require a new tyre. Given the 4,000 kms on the car meant I needed to keep the same make of tyres, I went hunting for the Dunlops on it. Most places had no stock and could not get it - a Dunlop Super Dealer had them in stock at the lovely price of $605 all fitted.
I know you could get them cheaper but actually getting hold of them was the hard part.
Yes, I love the 18" Detroits - but not when there is damage to either the wheel or the tyre...

You are correct but I knew what he meant.
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums

Whats the fixation with Denvers and Detroits? Every man and his dog has them on his/her car and quite frankly, they are past their use buy date for styling. I fitted some "POS" BBS 19" replicas to the TSI to give it some individuality. I've not seen another like it and I continually get comments in car parks as to how good it looks. The same people walk past Detroits without a second glance. If you're not going to track or quarter mile your car, the difference in performance and fuel consumption is negligible for every day driving. Get yourself some individual style and buy something other than the "set meal". Oh, BTW you'll save around $2-3K for other bling (or performance adhancements!)

You chose BBS replicas to be an individual? Out of the non-VAG wheels on Golf's, I've seen more BBS's than any other brand!
I hope they were at least LM's or RS-GT's or something interesting rather than yet another CH / Cx replicate.

Thank you for responding so quickly, Corey_R, as you usually do, in a derogatory manner.
The wheels I have, I chose, because Fab_R put them on his R. The only place I could find them in Oz was in Victoria where he purchased his. I had them freighted to Qld and fitted them myself (thats individual!) To date I've not seen another car with these wheels (other than Fab_R's, and he's changed his since) It doesn't alter the fact that there's 2000 Golfs out there with Detroits and probably less than 200 with BBS (or replicas), and probably less than 5 with these wheels. All I'm trying to do is inform newer members, (IMHO), that there is alternatives to these outdated wheels. (Detroits)
Heres some photos for your amusement:
And hey, I'm not the only person with the opinion. Another member recently said if he sees another Golfer with CH's on their car he's going to scream (or something more profain) but can't recall which thread that was in.
Anyway, I understand your point, but I'd still go for something more unique than CH's if you were going to go to the expense of BBS'
Agree, haven't seen many of the CH's in Brissie, where Brian is, and the stance of his car is pretty impressive.
And he is certainly the only one in the carpark at Virginia, where there are a few GTI's, polos, jettas and even an R.
My concerns about reps is the weight and construction quality.

Hi John,
Don't know the exact weight, can let you know next week when I put the standard wheels/tyres back on for a prospective buyer that wants the standard wheels . Obviously they are heavier than the OEM 16's (vs 19s), could feel that when I fitted them. The finish is immaculate on these wheels. As for construction, they are forged wheels like the BBS, but who knows the quality in the long run. China vs Czech Republic? Bit of a toss up there I'd think. Personally Id steer toward China, buts that MHO
