    The title is an understatement!!!

We ordered a GTI in December.

Given a “cast iron” date for delivery of March/April 2010.

Phone call from dealer on Wednesday suggesting a possible build date in April 2010.

We have to take delivery prior to June 30 2010.

Expected delivery now sometime after July 2010.

Has the dealer just dropped the ball or have we been shuffled to the end of the queue.

    Anyone else had similar problems?

Go find mavericks thread from a while back about his gt tdi delay - he got screwed over in a variety of interesting positions...

Not laughing at anyones expense.... But I read quite a bit of that thread the other day and was amazed how much the dealer in question got away with.

Ok I went and found it for you:

without going back and quoting: I would re-read your contract especially the part about delivery. Then you will know if you have a leg to stand on in regards to demanding a fix.

We ordered December 20th. Build date was week 6 (2nd week of Feb).

However wasn't showing in system as built yet in week 7.

He still gave me a firm date of May 20. (arriving on ship on the 5th)

When we signed, we were told end of March, then April... now May.

Hey Davel, I have the exact problem, GTI was also ordered December, and was qoted the same dates as you and then the June delivery date, was not impressed, however I was informed it was the factory's issue and not dealer

ElisiX, just regarding all your dates there, did you get those all from your dealer ( like build indictations etc)?

              That brings back memories

That's not the half of it, I probably should update it to include all the other things that Austral VW did like lied about the finance, lied about the repayments, lied about the interest rate, lied about it all being Volkswagen's fault, lied about the guaranteed trade in and really lied or mislead about just about everything. Even with the number of staff changes that have occurred there over the last few years from what I've heard nothing has changed including after Volkswagen "visited" a while ago which lead to a number of managers "departing".

Their salesmanager "came across" my post on golfmkv the day before I traded the car in and rang me and abused me about it (I had been careful to not blame them at that point although I was suspecting that this wasn't just a Volkswagen issue by that time) and had a vent about tradeins, not wanting to loan cars out (he wasn't avis), how he hated giving salesmen cars to drive home, not wanting to loose any money on trades (already down $8000 on trades that month) and so on and so forth.

The moral of the story is that Austral VW suck, go with the dealer you feel comfortable with (even if the price isn't as good) and where there's smoke there's fire. If the OP has any doubts as to the dealers honesty I would pursue this with Volkswagen direct (not via customer care - they're useless) and find out when the car was entered into the system and why there is a delay. The dealer can give you a print out which shows this info as well. This could be a delay on Volkswagen's side but it could also be the dealer sold your car for more $$$ or a to a friend and re-ordered.

And the wait is worth it despite it getting damn frustrating towards the end! I'm glad I didn't go with another manufacturer and whilst I didn't get all the options I was after the car still makes my smile every time I drive it.

Yea that happens with audi as well.

+1 to Austral VW having bad rep. I heard plenty. Seriously would not touch them with a 10 feet pole.

Mine was ordered in mid Dec 09 with Park Assist added in early Jan 2010 and Bi-Xenons on 1 Feb 10. Told first option of Park Assist wouldn't add any time. Bi-Xenon may add a few weeks to delivery, which was fair enough. Even though I've made addtions, the 'Estimated' delivery date remained at 30/4/2010 on the contract.

AFAIK most dealers will hold onto a vehicle for a month before onselling it to someone else. Annoying part for me is that other dealers in Sydney are awash with GTI's in their yards atm on on the ship about to dock.

Called my dealer manager yesterday (26/2/10) and was told no VIN has been released by VW yet for my ride. I had the impression that the GTI would be built same time ... week 6 or week 7 build (mid Feb in other words + 10-12 weeks to arrive) ... arriving late April to mid May 2010.

Told last week that Audi has a similar problem with a 6 month wait on A3/S3 models - purchase now in Feb 2010 and delivery expected in Aug 2010. Sunroof may delay your Audi by up to a month, regardless of model they tell me.

                    Cheers.

I have a feeling there will be very limited discounts offered on readily-available cars. Demand is obviously much higher than supply, so dealers must be willing to bet customers will be prepared to pay close to RRP for immediate delivery. Hell, I did - and I'm happy to have been enjoying the car all this time. Buggered if I'd wait 7 - 8 months for a new car, especially when members in other threads are crowing about the MK7 being just around the corner. Honestly, discounts are all very well, but how much are they worth in real terms when all you have is a piece of paper?

Perhaps some dealers are bumping the discounted orders down the build order to get stock of ready-to-sell vehicles. Less wait time for a higher profit.

                        Dermot,

Good on you for being honest ! I'm having dealers currently quote me late June for a complex build car, and guess what .... I don't believe it !

When does a VW dealer actually have to pay VWA for a car they have booked in.

Good question ...... It then poses the question, that if a dealer is behind in payment, either a cars aren't released or build orders being processed ?

What exactly is a "complex build" surely the production lines are tooled up for all the options, why does it take longer to build Manual then a DSG. This isn't an DB9 it's not handbuilt!
                              Its here!
