My GTI was serviced today (8200km) ... if it is not so costly I would like to replace oil & flush the engine after first 1500km (it is more habit from old days) ... please no comments about this
    Than back to 15K intervals

... anyway there is an issue with drivers window (working but sometimes making squalling noise (very common combination VW Golf & squealing) ... repair kit on order.

Mass production, many suppliers, car more and more complex, cutting back expenses ... result more and more problems ... but like most of You still love my car.

You can't go wrong with regular oil changes.. no matter what car it is, no matter how new or old. Fresher oil = happy engine.

Even my **** heap old Camry I drive to work gets fresh oil every 5,000km. It's cheap insurance.

GTI is nearly hitting the 1000k mark.. Should I do an oil change?

        Hi Guys,

        Just curious on your feedback..

The GTI is nearly hitting 1000kms.

And with that.. i have heard that its best to change the Oil and oil filter with fresh new oil.. once a car hits 1000km's. Has anyone done this? If so, did they do it themselves or go to the dealer?

        Some issues with this:

The dealer has stuck a sticker on the windscreen saying when the car does 7500k come in for a service or sometime in october whichever occurs first. Now LIKE HELL IM LEAVING OIL FOR THAT MANY Km's? Thats bad having the run in oil for that long aint it??

I really want to change the Oil and oil filter, for the Oil valvoline sport 0-40 i think is best as well as using a geniune VW oil filter..

What are your thoughts? Should i just wait till the car hits 7500km or service it myself or go to VW earlier when it has done 1000kms and tell them to do it?

I really want to do it myself to save 200 bucks just for an oil change which i can clearly do myself. What i like about the Mk6 GTi is that the oil filter is on top and not under the car which is AWESOME!

        All the best..

Move your mouse to the type right hand corner and click the search button. This subject has been done to death in various sub forums on this site and many other VW sites and there is more then enough information for you to make up your mind about what to do. VW are very specific about the oils to use (504.00/507.00) and they won't pay out for engine damage caused by either incorrect oil changes or for incorrect oil specification. A replacement engine is around $15K from memory.

Hi mate, you're fairly new and only have 14 posts, so I presume you didn't know about this thread. But since it already exists, I've merged your thread into it.

As TDiJetta09 said just before me though, follow what your manual says. If not, then do what you want

I'm not sure the search function is working with 'older threads'. It didn't work for me at least! I had to manually search for this by going back through the forum pages - but that only helped cause I knew this existed. I've posted in the Admin forum to ask if there is an issue with the search

They reckon that modern engines are built so cleanly that there's no need to worry about "run-in oil". The oil in there now wouldn't be any different to the normal grade of oil used at any other oil change. Anyway, I don't think there's anything wrong with changing it early yourself in the meantime - I did mine at 7,500 instead of 15,000 - but the important thing to remember is that you MUST use genuine products to cover your ass for warranty. Lob in to your local VW dealer and get the genuine Castrol oil, and a VW filter. Make sure you keep the receipt as well.

My understanding is Volkswagen vehicles come from factory with a run-in oil. It has different compounds from the 504.00 or 507.00 spec oils recommended.

The manufacturer recommends that the run-in oil be in the vehicle for at least 7,500km and up to 15,000km/1 year.

I also think we can all agree that oil changes are good for vehicles. And all new vehicles will have a wear in period.

My dealership recommended a first service at 7,500km then normal 15,000km/12month service intervals thereafter.

So for about $200-230 I cannot see harm in replacing the oil at 7,500km when the vehicle is new in my $50,000 great new car.

I also truly believe that a trusted brand like Volkswagen would not let us drive 15,000km unless it knew its product would be up to the task.

Absolutely, especially when they carry the entire warranty risk. If they even suspected that it may be necessary, they would simply be asking the owners to pony up $200 for an oil change well before the 15,000kms.

Why not ask that in the rattle thread?

His response is already in there in any case....

Yes as usual - "it is normal..." - in line with explanation received by other.

On Friday, I am talking my car to Wangara VW to fix my front windows (repair kit arrived last week) ... so I am going to raise that question again (Dermot are You reading this) ... but I don't think that VW Australia or dealers can do much about that one - without VW Deutschland (Dermot don't read this last part)

                            7500km service

                            Hi all,

I apologise admin as I know that this has probably been discussed before and exists in another thread...but I can't find it!

Is the 7500km service needed for the 118TSI? The dealer put a service sticker on my car for 7500km... but when I bought it they said the first one was at 15000km

Is this a little confusing or am I just a bit dumb... or both?

I've merged your thread to here. You should find the answer in this thread.
My suggestion is that you look at your manual and do what it suggests, rather than what the dealer suggests.

Unless the dealer is offering to do the 7500km service for free, like some of them are. My dealer said that they prefer to check the car over at 7500km despite what VW recommend, and they do this at their own cost.
