Sorry, i might sound like a litte newb but what is PDS?

Thanks, I prefer just asking them directly, but turns out the operators arent capable of telling the truth.

It's not necessarily that they're not "truthful", just that there is conditions to everything. With AAMI it is possible to pick your own insurer - BUT there are conditions to that...

What are peoples thoughts on HBA Car Insurance? It looks to be quite good. although I cant seem to generate a quote online at the moment.

I've been quite happy with Shannons (after an ordinary repair through AAMI on another car). Not always cheapest but you pay by the month for no extra and, importantly, you're covered on a race track if you want to do track days.

Here in SA I've just looked into insurance for my forthcoming GTI. I'm 31 with a top driving record, and want to go with agreed value, choice of repairer, and I do want a quality insurer (so AAMI doesn't get a look in). I've contacted Shannons (lousy agreed value and well over $1k), VW (underwritten by Allianz, approx $1k), RAA ($900) and Allianz (~$740) so far. From what I read Allianz are a good company to deal with, so chances are I'll go with them.

It looks like im fresh out of luck.

AAMI and Just Car will not cover the entire value of the car, so I dont want to go with them
GIO will not insure me unless im over 25
HBA will noo insure me unless im over 23
Alianz will not insure me because im too young (they did not state when I could however)

Which just leaves RACV which want about $2100 depending on how I do the excess's.

What other companys do people recommend? Regards.

Well - I did point this out many times! Even in this thread a few pages back I said that AAMI won't insure the GTI to its full value. Justcar are even worse, because they're meant for kiddies who modify their cars.

Allianz probably won't insure you until you're 30. They're one of the worst for that.
You could try Shannon's and see what they think.

But I think in the end, you're going to have to get your parents to insure the car, and just put you down as a specified driver, and just have to cop the big insurance premium and huge excesses.

Shannon's requires you to be over 25 too.
GIO won't insure you even if you put the insurance under your parents and you as a specified driver under 25. Not sure about the others.
                          I went with RACV, premium was $1200 w $1000 excess; Im 22 y/o.

Yeah - I'm not really sure why Pauly is complaining about $2100 to insure his brand new $45k+ sports car. Considering his age, I would have thought it'd have been much more than that. Hell, back in the 90's it cost me $1300 to insure a $15k Corolla. $2100 for a GTI today when you're a teenager is a bargain!

Yeah - I was expecting insurance costs to be much much more than what I paid, even colleges at work were surprised how "cheap" it was...
But you'd prefer to pay a bit more to ensure you have the best protection for you car; choice of repairer, etc..

I am finally at the age and drving experience to get semi reasonable premiums.
