I have to say that these are the crankiest forums I've read (at times). Is this the norm where it gets personal or is it just a medium for cyber bullying?
With what I'm seeing on the tele these last few days I wonder if it could be avoided by people just respecting other peoples right to an opinion.
Yeah, I'm new to this forum but I'm an old bloke who has had a bad day and it took me ages to remember where I'd left my soapbox!
Oh, to the OP (for some on topic content) put yourself in the dealer's shoes and ask whether you think it's fair to pull out or not. No one twisted your arm to sign up so at least kiss your deposit goodbye. I wonder whether buying a VW is a good thing 'cause I don't need to get crankier!
How much the sales person earns, how much work they put in, how much it costs to stock a car, weather the dealer can on sell the car easily or not, weather it was a stock car or a specific order, the operating costs for a dealership, etc etc, etc….
It’s all irrelevant.
CONTRACT LAW IS CONTRACT LAW.
You signed it, you own it. It is down to the discretion of the dealer weather or not he will release you from your obligations.
I would suggest that the best, and indeed fairest way of getting out of the contract is not to ask in a public forum how to wrangle out of it, not to ask how cheap you can get out, but to go and speak to the dealer in person.
Least of all, it’s just good manners.
For what it is worth, usually we will not charge a cancellation fee for a genuine case, but hold the deposit until the client is in a more suitable position to purchase a car.
Dermot's post sums it up nicely I think. Everything else has been covered.
I don't believe this thread was about having an argument about contract law but as seems always the way people can't help but tit for tat arguing.
The end.
Cheers,
Trent
