Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • A Coupla Things About The Mk6 I'd Like To Know

A couple of questions and observations from a newbie

I've just completed my first tank since delivery (when it had 13ks) - and I've got 645km out of one tank - that's phenomenal !

Query 1 : How low do you let the needle go before filling up ? I know the MFD will tell you to "REFUEL !" and you have "0km" left.....but I got away with it, luckily.

Observation 1 : Without knowing what brand the dealer used (I'll find out today when I get the bluetooth & weathershields put on), I can only compare the economy of that to Tank 2 - which is on BP. I think I'll trial out Mobil and Shell and see what I get from them. My driving is a mixture of Eastlink / Monash and suburban.

Query 2 : What tyre pressures is everyone running ? I haven't honestly checked them since delivery although the ride seems just fine. I'm on the 15" Wellington Alloys.

Roy, I was a bit annoyed you said that initially - but after talking to the service guy at Barloworld whilst dropping it off this morning, he said "you'll get more". I think I was amazed because i've never had a car getting that good an amount of economy before !

By the way, they use BP Petrol - so I'll be onto the second tank of the same.

      Will post some figures later.

There's a great website frequented by obsessive germans that has fuel consumption stats from hundreds of golf owners.

Use Spritmonitor.de, the online gas mileage calculator and database, to determine the fuel consumption of your vehicle and compare it with others.

I thought I'd mention it in the off chance there are other obsessives on this forum...............

As far as i know, 1tank can reach 800km...someone got 900km on 1 tank(forgot i saw it on this forum or other..)
so...definitely u'll be impressed when u see that on clock.

          Q1: haven't received my car yet...but usually i won't let the needle below 20%...

The Golf has a 55L tank. If you were to run it completely dry and make the 'combined rating', you'd get
            887km 90TSI Man + 118TSI Man
            859km 90TSI DSG
            846km 118TSI DSG

But the Golf says it is at '0km' to go when there is a reserve of 5L in the tank? (It's written in the manual, but I don't have a Golf manual on me right now).

So you'd get much less than this, unless you can beat the 'combined' rating. That is possible, especially on a freeway drive, but probably not something you'd be doing day to day.

645km per tank! For start/stop city driving that is just about the norm. My missus has hijack my 118TSI but from memory, I was getting something similar in a mix of city peak and off-peak driving with A/C running.

I have filled up my 118TSI four times so far.

On each tank, I have been very excited to knock up 400km when the needle is bang on half.

On each occassion I have made it 640-680 km with the range showing 25 km.

I am told this will get better.

I'm on Tank 2 now, and have just hit 670km before rushing off to fill er up

Another question to all Golf VI owners - does the driver's seat headrest go all the way down to the seat level ? Mine is one 'click' up and while it's not a bad thing, i'm used to the headrest resting on the seat itself.
