Its the import tariff that has come down, but the " dealer margin " in the car still stays the same. Can anyone back that theory up?Originally posted by TDiJetta09 View PostI was down looking through my local VW dealers car yard and I noticed the price on a new MK6 Golf 118TSI comfortline manual was $32917 drive away which is a saving of $1043 from what they where last week. The metallic paint was $519. So its good to see it has come through. To most people, the sky is the limit. To those who love aviation, the sky is home.

Ive been told by 2 dealers that the margin on 2010 complied GTIs have a lower margin. Maybe this is why I can not get near the 10% off that everyone is seeming to get

Dont have any evidence but logically why would the dealer margin change because less tax is now paid on it? it shouldnt.Originally posted by SpeedBird View PostIts the import tariff that has come down, but the " dealer margin " in the car still stays the same. Can anyone back that theory up?

Hey Coaster,
I am very keen to hear what VWA's response is.
I picked up a TSI118 on Wed 03/02/2010 after it was paid for on 02/02/2010. It seems to me that I was entitled to an amended price reflecting the VWA price revision. Mine has metalic paint so in total the difference is $1200.
My salesman did not mention the price drop at all.
I have emailed the salesman tonight and eagerly await his response.
This may be the 1st 'Name and Shame' on this thread.

It all depends....
Hi all,
I am currently in negotiations for a new Golf with a dealer here in Brisbane.
I got the salesman to price up the car a few weeks ago (prior to the tariff reduction).
When I contacted the dealer this week regarding the availability of the colour and options I am interested in, the salesman with whom I was dealing had "taken leave from the industry" and I was passed onto another salesman. When he asked where we were at with the deal I said that i had a quote on the car but nothing signed or ordered yet. His voice took on a jovial tone until I pointed out that the quote was prior to the price reduction and I would be expecting it to be redone.
His response..."well...errr...ummm...ahhh...umm...I guess so"
It was as if he was planning to see if he could get away with the old (pre reduction) price.
I guess if you ask for the reduced price, you'll get it but if you don't mention it, the dealers may try to pass on the old price.....

Which Dealers???
Hi all,
It appears that some dealers are keen to pass on the reductions and others are less forthcoming.
As I'm in Brisbane, which dealers are "coming to the party" so to speak and are giving the best deals?
You can PM me if you would rather not splash names around in the open forum
Thanks
