Like every other option, its personal pref. I use mine EVERY time I get in the car, rain hail or shine! It's the best option for me after DSG!

My past three cars have had them - I leave it open all the time and only close it by exception if it is going to rain or I am not coming back to the car for a while. Love the fresh air, the way hot air vents out quickly in summer (and doesnt really build up) and the feeling of the roof open on early morning or evening drives.
Yes - definately a personal choice.Golf 7R | 5 Door | Limestone Grey | DSG | Sunroof | Leather | Driver Assist | Tint | Formerly GTi11.5

I don't have the glass open that often, but I have the shade open on almost every occasion. I only shut it sometimes on hot days if I have to park it outside, and there has been about 2 occasions over summer where I closed the shade because it was just so hot and bright outside. So I use the extra light / openness that it gives every day

I had 3 cars with and thn had one without .... never again
best option possible - especially for small car - feels like you got more room inside coz of the extra light... and very handy to open it a bit (works much better thn just a window)His: Golf6 5door GTI DSG Carbon Sunroof MDI and 18" Drag rims + sticker that gives extra horse power
Hers: Skoda Kodiaq Tech/Lux pack and sunroof

I have one in my GTI. It's ok. I do use it in tilt mode often. I find that when open conventionally that it has an annoying acoustic "drumming" at certain speeds. This varies with the speed and the degree the roof is open. This can be solved by opening the rear windows slightly. I dont like the fact I have to do this. Never had to on multiple other cars with sunroofs. I think the wind deflector is perhaps a little small.
So in summary, yep I like sunroofs....just not particularly the Golf's. I use the sunroof in my wife's car all the time fully open. In the Golf less so.
It is a minor irritation but an irritation nonetheless. Still love my car though!

I say sunroof all the way. Although my R on the way is the first car I've ever owned with one, I did just spend two weeks with a rental Audi A6 that had a sunroof fitted and I had that open pretty much every minute I was in the car.
I don't think I'll ever buy a car without one again.Golf R ordered, here before I go old and grey: Expected delivery in August. Maybe.

I have one at the mo. It very rarely gets used unless I'm going for a spin on a nice winding road when the temperature is about 20 degrees. I never use it when it's warm, you can't really use it when it's raining. The only good thing I'll say about it is it's useful to get hot air out of the car on a hot day, but then again you do have 4 windows...

My opinion....
If you are buying a car that is a lot of fun, then why not a sunroof as they ARE (in my opinion) a lot of fun.
If you like to drive around with your window down most of the time, like direct fresh air, then a sunroof is a great idea, especially with the added light and feeling of openness in the car. I also think it makes a small car feel larger due to exact same reason.
I had an XR6 Turbo for 3 years with sunroof, used it daily, sunroof was always open, never had a problem with it.
Structural integrity - surely!!!! If you are going to full mod your car and seriously track race it, then how is this really going to affect you? From a structural rigidity point of view (as Corey stated earlier) this is already taken into account in the original design. You would really have to give the car a flogging on a very stiff lower end (drive train/suspension\tyres) to create that much stress through the roof structure to be worried about that.
It is a personal choice. I am getting one..... and this is just my 2 cents worth.
Oh! and Australia is not the only place that gets harsh sun and heavy rain.... If you can afford to buy a car that is essentially 1/10th or more of the value of a decent house, then you probably have a garage or a place to park it under. If I din't I probably wouldn't buy an "expensive" car - but that is me. On the other hand - I guess if you have enough money to buy the car then you should be able to pay to repair the rubbers (or whatever) on the sunroof when they do perish....
