  • GTI Pricing Inflexibility (WA)

    Hi Guys,

Have just started requesting quotes from local VW dealers in WA, for the following Mk6 GTI factory order:

3 Door, 6-Speed DSG, Candy White
    Vienna Leather Upholstery
    18" Detroit Alloy Wheels
    Dynaudio Excite Audio System

I don't agree with playing one dealer against another, so I will basically wait for the quote responses and then make a decision. I plan to use dealer servicing, future trade-up, etc so having a good longer-term relationship is a factor. In terms of financing, I will be paying cash and am prepared to put down more than the standard depsoit upfront.

What I am concerned about is that the dealers I have spoken to so far have been adamant that there can be no price negotiation, stating that the car is in such high demand at the moment that it is not a buyers' market. There would only be some potential for after-sales related benefits (cheaper servicing etc), but that didn't sound overly convincing.

Having researched as much Australian MK6 pricing information/threads as possible, it seems that most other people have been receiving at least some discount from their dealer, wether it be a reduced price on the car/options itself, or drive away costs.

Was seeking your opinions on this issue, and any tips on how to achieve a better outcome with the WA dealers. I am not wanting to bleed these guys dry by any means, but I think a situation where little/no discount is offered on RRP is unacceptable.

    Cheers,
    Michael

and if you fall for their "line" and pay rrp, then they win.

they are using psychology against you so play them off against each other.

I bought a car a few years back and the dealer absolutely refused to budge off rrp, so I got a quote ex east which was $4k lower, and the local dealer match it in a second.

If they arent prepared to budge, then walk out the door off to another delaer, see how fast they scurry after you

Given their sincerity and feedback, I'd be calling Dermot Munro or Shane Zieck (DP) at VW Wangara.

Have you requested quotes by phone, email...or have you actually gone into the dealership?

Thanks for the comments so far.

@FJ Steve: I actually made this post after initially contacting a couple of dealers and getting their thoughts on price negotiation - I plan to go in person to local dealers next week and hopefully get an order done. Will certainly include Wangara given your good experience with them.

          Daeven,

          Same advice from me

Osb. Park VW and JH VW are closer to me (Maylands) but I bought 118TSI (Feb 09) then trade it for GTI (Oct 09) and finally in Dec 09- 90TSI with comfort package (for My wife and daughter) everything from Wangara VW ...
and I am going to service my car there even it is 35km from where I live.

Even my first 2 Golfs I bought from Shane Zieck when he was with Osborne Park VW ... it is always about people.

.... and I think it is best if You go there and You will see what we are talking about.

I bought the .:R from OP. I think Shane was there at the time. Dealt with "smoky" Ken and Iain Scott.

Called into Wangara last week, because we are looking at putting another VW into the garage (the .:R is getting lonely). Asked for Dermot....and couldn't be happier with the short time we spent with him. Thorough gentleman, professional etc etc.

Then received a PM from Shane this week. Terrific content, and I have assured him we will be back....but someone has to buy all those '09 Polo's first.

I can also recommend VW Wangara as they were willing to negotiate a discount off rrp for my mk6 GTI. I doubt you'll be offered a price as low as the east coast but I'm now resigned to the fact that everything is more expensive in this town.

I bought mine from Wangara and was very happy.

They have hired a new girl as their service manager and she does a fantasic job! Definitely puts the customer first and is always friendly.

I live about 40+ kms from Wanagara too. I get a free loan car when my car is being serviced so I dont mind the drive there once a year.

To put some closure on this post:

Went to Wangara Volkswagen this afternoon and met with Dermot, and was able to get a deal done! Would recommend him to anyone - was friendly, new his stuff, clearly passionate about GTIs, and above all gave me a great price without any of the usual sales nonsense.

Now all I need is to rent a cryogenic freeze chamber to avoid the painful wait til my baby arrives

YEP! Thats what i did, it took me 20 mins to seal a deal, at the end of it you are wasting each others time in sitting there listen to the salesmans bull tactics............each customer waiting around looking to buy, is a wasted new sale for the sales person to another sales person in the same dealership.

And the more cars in one day or week or month he sells the more commision he gets.

The quicker he wraps it up the quicker he moved onto the next person.

You need to be smart and dazzle the saleman with your own tactics like this is the price i want to pay or i am walking, do it, watch how fast they sit you back down to seal the deal.

haha michael, theres nothing more painful than the wait for the car to arrive.

How many weeks are you waiting?

now multiply that by 7 to get days, then by 24 to get hours, then by 60 to get minutes and another 60 to get seconds you will be waiting!! LOL

                            ...sorry to rub it in!!
