Oh! Good spot Tux. I can't tell you how many times I've looked at this page and didn't realise that the price changes from $200 to $80 when the white one is selected!

Standard Black & White are $220 one off (as are any from the 'colours').
Euro are $400 one off (previously they had a $100 annual fee for non-personalised content, which is no longer the case).

Edit: FYI, the official 'standard' numberplate in NSW is still the old yellow with black text. It can still be purchased for $37. But the previous 'premium plate' for $80 to get the slim black and white's does not appear to be available anymore.
in south australia on the transport web site it still says that there is 150 annual fee for the euro plates

Different States, different charges. We still get sc**wed in Adelaide on number plate costs for euro plates.

              • Can someone who has bought Lakin plate brackets plus cover post some pictures?

I have black euro plates on order and really want to see a finished product before i decide to buy the plate bracket. Philip from Lakin says that because their bracket is bent as well there wont be a space in between the bumper unlike what GTI Cam experienced.

I'll provb get a standard size euro and possibly leave the plate holder on. Or take the holder off and the euro will hopefully cover the holes ( but don't screw new holes outside the standard plate area, or use tape),

Either way normal plates look crap with the holder and not nice without it as you see the holes.

                  • VW Group Australia should just not mandate the ****ing plate holder for Australia !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The USA don't have it. The Comfortline/Trendline models for Australia don't have it. The MKV GTI and R32 mostly didn't have it.

Why put it on in Australia on the GTI and R???

There is only 1 number plate in NSW which fits this holder!!! Yet there are 56 (including 5 euro styles) which DO NOT FIT!!!!

                    • Very frustrating I know.

I've just called the dealer yesterday and asked them to switch the white euro plates we ordered when the car was purchased in December to black Euro. So it should be delivered tomorrow with black Euro's. I plan on either taking the plate holder off (plugging the holes) if the bumper has not already been damaged by the plastic holder. Alternatively ill use the black plate frame from larkin. Would much rather have the small plate attached directly to the bumper with some simply washers etc making it flat.

                      • Yeah - with the CSG colour, the plugs look alright. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the Golf R in Rising Blue Metallic though.....
Maybe I'll just get the original blue/white euro and leave the plate holder there.

                        • Could you perhaps make the visible screw holes from the OEM plate holder bigger and put the parking sensors in the hole, but with out all the parking sensor setup? At least it would be the same color - maybe expensive though. Anyone done this?

                          • A body shop around town told me they have done a clear number plate holder to replace the black euro one, could be something else to consider.

                            • Will be getting full sized white VIC euro plates for our black GTI. Black on black would be an interesting look, but I think the white is more classic.

                              • I'm planning to get a black euro plate on my black GTI too. I'm interested to see how it looks like. If anybody can paste some sample images here I'll be appreciated.
