I'm getting my car opti-coated as I type this and requested my front dealer-fitted bumper holder to be taken off. I've also spoken to Philip from Lakin about his plate holders and I'm ordering a set from him this week. The plan is to spray paint the front and back holders to my car's colour (Platinum Grey Metallic).
Will post pics when it's all done!

Colour coding the lakin plate holders is a good idea as it will blend in well to the bumper. Look forward to seeing pics when it's done.Originally posted by ziggyboy View PostI'm getting my car opti-coated as I type this and requested my front dealer-fitted bumper holder to be taken off. Anything is better than those dumb ass holes.Originally posted by Fab_R View PostThanks Rob... Yeah something that is cheap and effective in my opinion.
And covering the stupid big holes
Wonder when someone comes up with the idea of filling them with led lights!!

Am I right in assuming you only had to plug the 2 upper, outer holes from the number plate holder? The lower, further in holes are covered by the plate? Also is that front plate a slim line?Originally posted by Mi16 Man View PostDue to the ACT Govt not giving us an option for Euro plates, I removed the big black piece of plastic from the front bumper. Works well on a dark coloured Golf....not sure how those 2x plastic plugs would look on a white/silver Golf...
Step 1-remove number plate
Step 2-press in the centre of the x4 plastic plugs.
Step 3-pry out 4x plastic plugs and remove Euro plate holder
Step 4-clean and polish were the holder was sitting directly on the front bumper bar
Step 5-remount the front number plate in (possibly) existing holes.
Step 6-depending on the size of your number plate, refit the necessary plastic plugs to cover up the holes left behind. Faux parking sensors? Oh well....

Spot on Simon. The standard plate bracket has 4 holes. My front slimline plate covers the inner holes. Just plug the outer ones with the remaining 2 plugs. Luckily, the colour of the car ensures the black plugs don't stand out too much.
They are not a perfect fit, slightly loose but will never fall out.
If you need a hand, let me know. Happy to help.

Thanks Stu much appreciated. I was looking at these bumper plugs:
BumperPlugs.com
But they seem to works best with a 1/4 inch hole. I'm assuming the hole the clip things would leave would be much bigger than that?
May even just use some grommets?2008 VRS Wagon. Yellow, very yellow!

I used Bumper Plugs to fill the two outside holes. You are right, the hole left by pushing out the existing plugs does leave a larger hole. I just wrapped some tape around the stem of the plug and it fitted nice and tight. I bought CSG coloured plugs to match the bumper.Originally posted by Pullstarter View PostThanks Stu much appreciated. I was looking at these bumper plugs:

The colour matches perfectly. If I get a nice day, I'll post a pic.MkVI GTD fitted with Bluetooth & MDI, CSG, DSG, Xenons, RNS510 with Dynaudio, ACC, Weathershields, Mudflaps, Sunroof, LED Tails, LED Indicators, LED Foglights, Interior LEDs, Tinted, RVC and Towbar - Gosford.

Removed the Euro holder plastic thing on my carbon steel grey GTI, remounted the plate with double sided tape and used colour-coded BumperPlugs to fill the outer 2 holes which the plate doesn't cover. Plugs were a loose fit in the holes, i just put a bit of clear silicone on them and they're stuck in very firmly now
Looks great, i will post a pic up soon so you guys can have a look.
