  • Leather Option

    Hi VWW
The wife and I are looking at buying a White 5 door MKVI GTI the options are
    electric sunroof
    leather
    Bi-xenon
    18" detroit wheels
    MDI
    toebar (fact fitted)
    tint.
But we really like the Jacky interior as well with the red stitching and plade it ties the red bars on the grill and brake callipars in .
We are thinking of droping the leather and adding
    Adaptive Chassis Control

What do you guys think will it affect resale in 4 to 5 years to much .
Not to sure about the Park Assits or the SAT/NAV with Dynaudio ,don't use sat/nav at the moment .

    Its with DSG.

    Cheers

    Mal

I don't think not having leather will affect resale much at all. Park assist IMO would be worth getting just to have the front and rear sensors with OPS. The jury's out on ACC - some people think it's a must have, others don't see a real difference. It's probably one of those things you won't miss if you don't have it. Best thing to do is to try and have test drive with and without ACC and experience for yourself.

I'd get leather over park assist (which is a gimmick; so is ACC imo), and a lot people like it over cloth come time to sell.

Never thought I'd say this but if you can't park a small hatchback then shouldn't be driving (
(still pretty cool but something you'd lose money on IMO, and cars lose enough as it is).

          #1 Leather
          #2 Park Assist
          #3 ACC

That's the order i'd be choosing them in given your situation and resale concerns.

Save the money on the leather and get the cloth retrimmed by an auto upholsterer, VW's are notorious for their use of vinyl in their seats and for the fact that the leather is painted and not dyed. They don't last long and just don't have the same feel as the higher end brands.

You can get both front and back seats including door cards in pretty much any colour and stich you want for well under 2.5k, you cannot believe the difference between a professionally done by hand job, and the mass produced stuff they pass off a leather seat package for 3k from VW...

                That's a good point Houso.

It would have been nice to simply get the bolstering/headrest done in leather on the GTI and leave the centre 'strip' in Jacky OEM.

Would you still get heated and electric seats with the cloth option? Melb/Vic can get pretty cold.

I wouldnt mind combination suede and leather if i was going aftermarket, or something two tone which would be pretty cool if done right.

I'd also get the RNS & Badge Camera before the ACC & Park Assist.

If you are getting 18" wheels with ACC then definitely test drive a demo with those options first. There are some that think the combination of the two (without putting ACC on comfort/normal mode) can stiffen the ride too much... but then again, it does come down to personal preference.

IMO, I'd go bi-xenon's, leather, park assist.

Hehehe... as with any of these threads, wait enough time and someone will give you an opinion for basically every combination of options and which is better. The threads are pointless....

As for purchasing a new car for resale, it's pointless. You want the least financial impact to the total cost of ownership come resale, buy a car which is less than a year old but not completely new, that way you'll still get a similar resale value but you paid $10k less to begin with so you don't lose as much come resale. So since you're buying a new car which goes against financial sense to begin with, get what YOU want because it won't matter too much either way later on.

Houso makes a good point about aftermarket leather, but you then lose:
                      heated seats
                      electric lumbar adjustment
the option for full electronic adjustment for drivers seat in 5 door cars.

Personally, if I were purchasing a Golf GTI there is no way I'd buy it new, or second hand, without leather. But that's just me

                          I'd get:

                          leather
                          Bi-xenon
                          18" detroit wheels
                          MDI
                          RNS-510
                          Badge Camera

Maybe dynamic electronic suspension if i didn't want to bother with after market suspension.

Ps. Are you going DSG or 6MT? Hard decision but I may try DSG next time to see what all the fuss is about, and 6MT may not be as fun as the MK5 with the XDS elect throttle.

                            Hi G-rig
I'm going with the DSG box ,getting tired of changing gears in my Seat Ibiza.
I'm not worried about heated seats either I haven't found it to cold enough yet where I couldn't sit on the leather seats in the Maxima .

                              Hi Christopher
Have you driven the gti with the 18"s and how does the ride compare with the original 17"s .
The idea going with the ACC was I could set it in comfort/normal driving around normal and when I wanted to have some fun set it in sport .

Thanks for all the reply's guys KEEP THEM COMING .
