Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Roadside Assistance - What Is It ?

    Hey all....

I'm curious as to what Roadside Assist is. I spoke to my dealerperson, and he wasn't entirely sure who it is through and what it exactly offers - he did think it was RACV premium (Total Care).

    Can someone explain :

    * What number you call
    * What it's been explained to you as
    * Is there any paperwork associated with it when you get the car ?

Looking at some of the elements of VW Insurance, they offer the same kind of thing, but more along the lines of when you've had an accident/stolen, as opposed to breakdowns.
They're pretty competitive on what they offer for insurance, it's either between them and my current CGU - who offer Rating 1 for the whole insurance period (year) as opposed to paying for one extra only (VW).

In terms of parking sensors (rear, which I'm getting) - does anyone know who supplies them and is it easier getting them aftermarket ? The system Barloworld is offering has a small screen indicator showing your distance to the object (goes near the rear vision mirror) - would love to see a photo of it

Also, there was a Bluetooth system (small screen attached on the dash) they were offering - but nobody could tell me what brand it was - it was only a special deal with the insurance, etc.....

BTW, I'm trading in a Mazda 3, which is due a service, but i haven't had a chance to get to it over the holiday break, etc - and upon speaking to the dealerperson today, he said don't worry about it as long as it's driveable - there is an engine indicator light coming on but it runs just fine - but there are a few things I would need to do to it that've been niggling me. Is it worth it, and worth doing the service due (it was a bigger one, the 80k) ?

I'm looking forward to the experience

As it was explained to me, the number is on the front window sticker, if the car breaks down call the number.

        no booklet, no paperwork,

A pack is sent out after you buy the car to the address when you purchased the car, it can take a while as paperwork has to be finalised by the dealer with VW so allow a few months.

All the details for this are on the Volkswagen website.

I've needed VW Roadside Assist twice

I just rang their number (it's on a sticker on the window, and also they give you a card with the number), described the problem (oil in the coolant, plus drastic messages on the MFD), and after some discussion (and an hour or so of waiting) a flat-top truck appeared and took my van away to the dealers where they fixed it for me (under warranty). They dropped me off at my home.

Was a thread about this sometime ago.
Depends on your area you require assistance from.
Some members get the company Mondial Assistance others NRMA or their
              state motoring service turns up.
