My new car is due in the next few weeks, any tips on things to check. For example I have noticed on some Golfs the door exterior window sill trim has not been seated to well has anyone noticed this. And anything else to look out for. Still looking forward to delivery after 3 months.
I'd carefully check the interior door panels if you've decided to get tinting done. When I picked up my Golf pretty much every internal door panel had some damage from the tinting guys having no idea how to unclip the panels.
Check particularly on the handle where your arm rests as this is where the panel opens (and where they will try to force the panel if they have no idea).
I had to go back to get my door panels replaced due to the fantastic job the tinting guys did.

From (an old American) Lemon Law book I remember this.
-Check paint in full sunlight.
-Test all electronics Air Con, Radio and Windows etc
-In the book it also suggests test driving the vehicle before handing over payment but that maybe overboard by Australian standards (anyone ever done this ?)
Thanks for comments, the window tinting door trim removal has me concerned I might research that a bit more. Also being the Sports Pack the hatch and rear doors have some factory tint already so in theory only the front doors need tinting, I think this may have been posted already.

Yep (but only a quick drive around the block to ensure the car wasn't a total lemon)
And I also checked that I had a spare wheel, a jack, a wheel nut tool and that the security key actually fitted the lug bolts on all 4 road wheels. I did warn the salesman that I would be doing a very thorough inpection (and a short test drive) before handing over my hard-earned money. He was cool about it (and slightly amused).
If you are really fussy it may be worth making up a comprehensive check-list and going through it prior to accepting delivery.

Was that done by the dealer or offsite after handover ?

Absolute must... I remember when my sister got her vw polo she tested the heater and it wasn't working... Reason, they didn't install one... So definitely check all electrics.

Now that's funny. Last car I had that didn't come with a heater was a 1968 Valiant.
Hey KWicks, thanks for the heads up, i'm adding it to the list.
I'm also interested in Arma Tint - they're all round Melbourne and have competitive quote too - and the bloke I spoke to at Coburg was really decent (ie we had a normal conversation !!!!)
