Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Made my order in Dec.. just before xmas. I dont believe the order was placed with VW till the first week of Jan or perhaps in-between XMAS and NYD. At the time of signing the papers I was told end of march, now i've been told possibly end of April. If it gets pushed back any further than that i'll be tearing shreds off them. They've already agreed to providing me with a loan vehicle for the period in-between my car selling and their car arriving from the end of Feb.

Very unusual for S/Yarra they normally have a reputation even with other VW deealers that they are cheaper than everyone and do so stragiht up no 'mucking' around so to speak. It all comes down to people though and you may have got a salesperson who was a D$%K.

I know Barloworld have been doing massive numbers though so they may have done a leaner deal becuase profits are so high right now. At least with South Yarra they are locally owned and not an international share holder group that send profits to swaizeland.

Congratulations on the purchase, i hope you enjoy it once it arrives (i know its a given you'll love it)

my family and extended family have always dealt with them when it comes to VW. They always have the best service and always give us the best price possible. I went to barloworld in moorabin and the guy tht talked to us was a complete ****ead....he told us tht there were no gti's in the white colour we wanted with our specs and we had to order the car and wait till like april.
We then went to South yarra and they got us the the car in three working days and gave us a better deal.
Was a good experiment trying barlowrold though. wont be going back tho.
          Pretty much my experience too.

That's the same situation as myself. I put my order in 2 weeks before X-mas and just found out yesterday that I've been allocated a February build date, thus the earlist I'm looking at getting it is mid April, but realistically I'm looking at an end of April / start of May. Rather annoyed at that given that I was given an approximate of March, end of at the latest at the time of signing!

Seems strange that you guys are being told different delivery times.
My dealer told me about a month ago, that the next GTI build wouldn't start until week 6 of 2010, and would then take the 16-18 weeks to be delivered. So there was no rush to order a factory GTI as it makes no difference to the delivery time up till about the end of January.

Unless they were hoping to match the specs of your orders with a car that is on it's way out here already that hasn't been sold??

There is another side to this. If you weren't given a February build date, then you probably would've been given a 51/09 build date like another member of this forum was. Yes, you only put your order in a few weeks before that, but there is nothing saying that VW hadn't already built a car which was close enough to your spec that they could have just adjusted that. In this case, you'd have a 2009 built car instead of a 2010 built car, so you'd lose about $1500 on resale if you sold it in say 4 years time. So the fact that you're getting a February build date instead of December is a good thing!

                It's not really that strange.
Week 6 2010 is February 2010. So this story alines with what Christopher has been told. It's fairly obvious why they do them in batches as it means less issues and problems on the production line.

And yes, the VW factory, VW Australia, and the dealer, will try and match the specs to a car which is already manufactured/in transit if it hasn't been sold. If the purchaser is happy with that spec or didn't have something like "must be 2010 built" in their contract then it's only beneficial to everyone involved

                  Corey,

and those are the exact thoughts I was having this morning after having slept on it. I'm definitely happier now to wait the extra couple of months to ensure that I have '10 build. I suppose, it's just the initial frustration of being told there are delays...

Reading that post that you were talking about was what actually prompted me to call the dealer to see how things were progressing.

Christopher's case makes sense, it was actually elisiX that has also been told of delayed delivery from the end of March till end of April, where I figured that March delivery for a factory built GTI was never realistic.

So essentially Christopher and I will be getting the cars which are built as part of the first 2010 batch. (ie; none are made in Jan)
