That is true for the most part.

I guess it's about whether your in a position when selling to hold out for the right buyer who wants the full kit vs someone who doesn't care otherwise and just wants to pay as little as possible. Things like wheels can always be parted out, but options are never going to keep thier full value. Some options may make the car more desirable in amongst the 10 others.

    • Wow 900 dollars. That would be amazing if I could get that much for them. Did you sell on eBay? Or how?

Sellers will always try that lark.

Ive had a few tyre kickers come to look at the GT, and one even had the cheek to say, well there is this one for sale for $28k. why is yours more???

maybe the fact that its bouncing of 60,000km and has no options on it would have something to do with it?

I only got for what i like to call essential options, red book only value the base spec cars and that is what everyone goes on when buying used.

At the end of the day a GTI can be optioned to close to $70k. thats a lot of money for a golf, and gets you into the territory of (IMO) a better class of car that would have a lot of those extras included in the price, and also hold resale a lot better.

Any modifications away from standard also tend to scare users off, big wheels and lowered suspension, chips etc just shout out that the car has had a hard life, as opposed to adding any value to it. Best to put back to stock to sell unless it is something really really special and you can find someone with exactly your taste in cars.

        • Again I agree for the most part. Lets keep this on topic though.

Keep the stock wheels - it will give a better impression come resale time.

          • Ah i guess so....but i'm not all that phased when it comes to resale value because i'm going to give the car to my younger brother when i'm done with it...so it doesn't really affect me.
Have the guys from VMR got back to you about prices and how long until the bulk shipping is done?
            Thanks

            • group buy reply?

              any updates on the VMR's?

              ALL GREAT NEWS.

              I've now asked this.

              That’s great news.

I noticed on MKV.com forums that you were doing an 18” set for $799 USD.

If they are going to be local, will they still be based off the USD? (hence my enquiry)

For example – I can buy a BBS wheel from tirerack for $300 USD per vs about $800 per AUD locally.

              Cheers,
              Jay

              • Not yet - i've been watching the various forums but haven't seen a new MKVI offer on the VMR's.

                • You can get OZ rims from tyrerack.com for about $300 each.
You can get enkei race rims for about $240 each.

Why get tempe crap when you can get super high quality gear that actually improves performance and looks better too!

I priced up 17x8 enkei rims with Hankook Rs3 ultra high performance summer tyres and it was about $1500 plus a bit of shipping.

                  • I'm totally with polar bear.
When i finally decide on what i want i will buy off tirerack.
I'm just tossing up between these two. So hard to choose.

                    Opinions?

                    • I like the OZ, because I don't like the gloss finish of the Enkeis. But they both look great.

                      • These are the one of the only after market rims I've seen on a GTI that I actually like. For me, it would either be these or the 18" Detroits.

                        • They're very nice.

                          • I wonder if they are the motorsport rims? Can anyone confirm?

                            • I'm not sure what they are, found them on a UK forum.

                              • Not motorsport rims ... not even something that You can find on this official VW Germany website:

more locking as as Golf MK5 2l FSI standard rims in black

Here (VW Germany) there is few good locking packages - tyres & wheels ... but not sure is it possible to buy them here:
