Shot an email off to VMR this morning for pricing. Looking online I found a recent group buy for 40 pieces (10 sets) for $999 a set.

It'll be interesting to see the regular pricing shipped to Australia. I've asked for pricing as shipped as a set of 4 as well as in lots of 2 (to come in under $1000 AUD and save on duty).

These wheels rock. I now realize why I love them so much - they're replica's of wheels made by HRE - wheels i've always admired and seen on BMW's for years.

Hey, are you planning on getting a set of these?
If so, we could do shipping together to bulk bill it and split it if you like?
      Let me know.

Well my car wont be made for a month.. and wont be here for another 2-3...

If you import items valued under $1000 AUD (iirc), then you avoid paying duty (or its reduced).

So best to order them 2 rims at a time. However the saving might not be worth the difference in shipping.

I think I'll go the dark grey.

Ah ok i see where your coming from in regards to the saving...It may work out to be better ...just need to research it i guess.
Well i am planning on saving a litle more before i do do anything..so i guess i'll start a thread asking if anyone wants to bulk buy when i'm ready.
I really like these...seen them on a lot of m3's and they are my all time favourite car.
            ah dreams.
            thanks for the tip.

The wheels these are based on are the M40 by HRE. A custom built wheel made to each persons exact spec. A very nice wheel.

Quality of the copies seems to be good. Am just trying to hunt down more examples - there are so many online.

Wow - this is a VERY impressive thread.
I can't believe that it's been going 7 pages on the topic "best wheels for my GTI" and it hasn't broken out into a fight and been closed! hehe

I'm also a big advocate for purchasing stuff from Tirerack. I'd never even considered buying rims from them, but I've always recommended buying tyres from them.

                Two things to remember:
                1) Ensure you get the correct offset for the particular Rim for fitment to the GTI
                2) In regards to splitting up the shipment to avoid import duties etc. Do a calculation to ensure that the added shipping costs don't outweigh what you'd pay for the import duties. No point spending more to avoid something less

                  Sounds good.
                  I can't decide on colour though....Arghh
such a big decision for me,
                  haha
Depending on what deal they can do for me...it's either these or these enkei's as i can get a set of them with a set of Continental tyres for around 1300 american not including shipping.
Do you know how much shipping may be?
                  thanks

Not sure on shipping. Still waiting to hear back from VMR.

Just found ecs tuning doing Bilstein PSS10 coilovers for $2k USD - yummy

Thanks team_v.. the exact info I am after. Will wait on VMR to get back to me on updated pricing but this sounds perfect.

                      From that link:

I paid so far USD$799 for the wheels + USD$380 delivery to Melbourne Airport. I called custom here in Australia and they told I should be fine in terms of paying taxes as the items I'm importing cost less than AUD$1,000. However since they are coming by air freight, they told me that I would need to contact an importer agent to lodge the custom clearance form which is around AUD$150 according to them.

Just remember you will have to tack on at least another 700-1500 for some rubber to wrap those rims in.

I guess that is why so many people go the tempe option.

Yup.. CSC2 are not going to be cheap

I only wish I didn't bother with the 18" wheel option when ordering the car.

I am not going any options on my Tiguan for that very reason.

Curious as to why you are going with Conti tyres instead of other tyres with a better reputation?

                              GTi Rims

I will be looking at getting 18" rims on my GTi (Carbon Steel probably) once i receive it and have been "shopping" on tirerack.com as well.
My short list at present (in no particular order):

BBS CM - Machined finish with Anthracite Accent

Borbet Type XL - Machined with Black Accent

OZ 35th Anniversary - Machined with Black Accent

OZ Superturismo GT - Bright Silver

OZ Adrenalina - Machined with Flat Black Accent

OZ Michelangelo 10 - Machined with black accent

Size will be 18x8 and will need to check offsets. Leaning towards the Borbets at present as they are more likely to be unique in Aus, otherwise the OZ 35th Anniv editions look damn good.
The Michelangelo 10 looks good and is a bit more conservative / traditional.
