  • Noobish Q - Whirring noise on 1st door opening?

I RT(F)M and did a forum search, but couldn't find mention of what the whirring noise is that occurs for a second or two on opening the car door for the first time in a while. Can someone satisfy my curiosity?

    Thanks.

From one noob to another I think it's the fuel system priming up.

Fuel pump? That isn't the term that I use to describe it. More like engage thrusters ready for take off.

Doesn't the MKVI have a significantly larger fuel pump than the MKV, and would hence explain the noise?

The fuel pump, it's been a feature of VWs since the MK4 came out. It primes the fuel system for starting.

You can hear it from outside the car, as you are stood by the door when it does it, it is triggered by the opening of the door.

              D'oh.

I put my car onto a hoist last night. Sure enough when I opened the door this morning, ...it's the fuel pump. I stand corrected
              Bloody noisy pump.

They aren't silent but you can barely hear them when they are on continuously.
