No problem here. We've had a couple of days pushing 40 and a handful over 30. Hasn't missed a beat so far.

All good here, too, thankfully - it's been as hot as Hades.

          Compressor

Seems VW still haven't worked out how to make an Air Conditioner.

After all the issues everyone has had with dud compressors over the last few years, you would think they would have fixed it by now.....if the MKVI has compressor issues...that is very sad....unacceptable even.

Earliest dealer could book the car in was the 30/12, at their Five Dock workshop. Other wise it was the 9/1/10 at their Mascot workshop.

At little put out with the delay, but it is over the Christmas period. just wasn't expecting the ac to last only 8 days before playing up.

will post what the solution was.

They don't make their own they get them from aircon manufacturers such as Valeo, Sanden and others. Sanden seem good but the others apparently are not so good. Don't get many complaints about aircon from US which is unusual. Do we get a dud brand?

The problem has been fixed, the mark VI has the same compressor as the mark V which is the Sanden one.

You're still going to get problems with the newer units because there are so many moving parts but the actual compressor issue itself has been resolved.

They have the same problem in the US.

Why doesn't VW do a recall for all affected models. Surely they could identify the cars made before June 07 and change over the dud compressor instead of waiting for it to shatter and inconveniencing their customers.

Why would they? You don't recall a car because a small percentage have a problem.

If 5% of cars will have a problem wouldn't it be irresponsible both from a cost and environmental perspective to replace all the AC units?

VW already offer goodwill if the car has a VW service history and the out of pockets can be quite low. I'd prefer to see a extension of warranty on the compressor myself but VW at least are helping.

Yes I guess you are right. I didn't realise it was a small percentage of vehicles and thought it was all up until a certain date.

                          Air-conditioning fixed.

Its seems it may have been the compressor, the dealer tested it and it would work for 15 minutes and then stop working.

The work sheet, clearly states that the the compressor was removed and replaced and the system re-gassed.

The guy at the counter, said that meant that only a re-gas was needed as it wasn't done properly at the factory or there may have been a blockage in the system.

I always assumed that when the work sheet says a part was removed and replaced, that doesn't mean that the original part was re-installed - I could be wrong.

                          cheers
