  • DSG recall

Earlier today I received a recall notice for my TDI Mk 6.

It's a DSG software update for the clutch temperature sensor to correct a misread that "may result in loss of drive" among other nasties.

There have been many references to this fault on US forums — initially they were replacing the sensor, which didn't always work and the trouble came back.

It now appears that it was a software problem all along.

Rang the dealer, they knew all about it and it's apparently not regarded as urgent — they've booked it in for early Jan.

There's further info on the Skoda forum.

I had the same issue and VW replaced my DSG! Unfortunately it was not a recall, the car lost the drive few times, got towed to the service center and later got it fixed

Your dealer may only be trying to reassure you, but I'm not sure he is telling you the whole story. It seems other VW owners are being told it is an "Urgent Safety Recall" :

2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

I have a feeling the problems are with the 7speed DSGs? Not sure sure though..

My GTI is due out in March ..hopefully they would have corrected it by the time its manufactured! hehe

I don't really know — the recall in USA seemed to apply to the 6-speed, which in the Mk6 is only used in TDI and GTI.

They appear to be doing it by VIN No., and since it was issued by Wolfsburg some months ago later vehicles should already have the updated software — although delivered in May, mine is December 08 manufacture and at that time I think they were still denying there was a problem.

As to the urgency, I think that appears on the envelope to ensure you open it — the actual letter doesn't suggest panic.

My DSG has so far been smooth and biddable, but then, having been a fleet owner (and remembering vividly the maintenance bills associated with company cars...) I know better than to thrash it.

Got mine done today. Drives the same afterwards. Update software, maybe giving new instructions to the gearbox not to sh*t itself!!

What sort of DSG gearbox do you have?
Wouldnt expect it to drive any different afterward. As I understand it, the software update effectively removes a bug that was spuriously shutting down a clutch for a fictitious overheat in some rare circumstances. So you don't have to worry about this happening now - thats all.
