  • Adjusting Seat Golf GTi

    Hi,
yesterday picked a new GTi, sllver manual, first ever vw and very nice car. But I am still trying to get a comfortable seating position. I am about 172cm tall and I am finding that the front of the seat is too high and lifting the seat makes it a little better. The position is comfortable, until I need to use the clutch and the seat cushion then hits my left leg. I am not used a high seating position so is it a matter of just keep lifting the seat. sorry if this sounds like a stupid question...

    regards

Have you tried moving the seat forward a little ? Some people tend to sit too far back and with the squab reclined too far. If you look at racing and rally drivers positions (whre car control is really important) they sit closer to the controls than a lot of street drivers.

These days I set the seat fore/aft position first (where I can comfortably push the clutch fully down and hold it there for a while),
then I adjust the seat back rake (I usually prefer a fairly upright squab position),
then I adjust the steering wheel height and distance (telescoping) from me,
    then the mirrors.

Sometimes you have to fine tune a little to get really comfortable.

A tip I saw on TV from a professional driver was that you should be able to comfortably place your wrists on top of the steering wheel with your shoulders touching the back of the seat. It might seem pretty close to the wheel, but it gives you optimum control of the vehicle. This is a good position to start, and then make micro-adjustments in each direction until you're snug.

        Hi,
went back to basics as suggested, I almost there. The Golf is smaller, than my previous cars and its a little disconcerting to find the front of the seat squab just touching the back of the left leg when the clutch is let out, but at least its a hell of a lot more comfortable.

        thanks for the help
