I ordered in the middle of Nov and was told the delivery will be April. I was also told it might be earlier. Will call dealer and check the order status tomorrow.

I placed my order the day after the official launch (1st Nov) and only just got assigned build week 6 so the original estimate of 3 months wait for an order is turning out to be 5/6 months instead. Expecting delivery in April.

But this could also be influenced by the fact that the GTI was made available in North America not too long before it launched here so that would definitely put the production lines under a bit of strain.

So if I were to decide to buy a GTi, is stock available at Dealers in Sydney right now? Or would I also need to place an order and wait 3-6 months?

yeah, but you won't get any choice as to what you buy. Seems like most ones left don't have many options fitted.

Well good to see my dealer has informed me!! ***** HOPELESS PRICKS!!

The contract says if delivery is delayed by 2 months, you can pull out of contract... Looks like I may do that, I cant wait until April..

              Can't, or don't want to?
What other car could you get built to order and have delivered by Feb next year at this point in time?

Actually.. correction.. when I say the 'original estimate of 3 months wait for orders' I meant the estimate quoted by VW Australia themselves at launch for custom builds.

My dealer put down a estimated delivery date of 31st March in my contract... so they already factored in a potential delay (better to keep expectations low when it comes to delivery dates on a GTI I guess). They've been good in keeping me up to date with the status of my order... they've contacted me twice in the past month to keep me in the loop with what's happening.

But yeah, give em a call and ask whether you've been assigned a build week yet

I ordered mine on wednesday, i have estimated delivery time of May 17.

Do they all come on the same boat?, i cant imagine there would be a boat full of VW's rocking up every week or month,

No... that's the thing. Jap cars (typically) don't get built to order. They just have so little option combinations from the factory that 99% of the time they can fulfil the order with stock which is already in the country, or is on the way.

Take the Civic Type R for example. 4 colours, no factory options, and then a bunch of dealer fit accessories, which means they only have 4 cars to stock. Or Mazda 3 MPS. 4 colours and two spec levels for 8 combinations to stock. Completely different world to the Golf GTI which I calculate has 1,920 combinations after excluding factory options which the dealers _could_ do themselves if they really had to. Or 122,880 combinations including all factory options.

                          Hi,

bought my GTI on the 7/12 delivered on the 10/12. Yes last manual they had on the floor (Barloworld, Mascot) Got the colour I wanted reflex silver, but came with 17" wheels, cloth trim and no options. Was told their next deliveries were scheduled for April 2011, if I wanted any options.

Wow, sounds like the delay's are quite varied! I ordered mine on 12-Dec and I was told a delivery date around end of Feb, start of March 2010... 2011 sounds suss to me...
