OK, So I only ordered my R 5 days ago and I thought I had negotiated the anticipation of a 4 month wait. All was going well until the after market specialist rings me and starts hitting me up about paint and leather protection......dude its not going to be hear for another 4 months....

First car I've bought without so much as a test drive!

I hope you told them that you don't want the protection package.

I had the same thing too, ordered my car, a week goes by and I got the call and the car doesn't arrive for another 3 months.

Yeah I agree, I've always been very cynical about these protection packages. I always get the interior protection however the paint and rust protection...keep it!

If anyone has some feedback on the paint protection please reply. I always wax my cars with the meguirs system finishing normally with the wet look polish. They have always come up awesome!

Personally I think even the interior protection is useless. Go down to Bunnings and buy the 3M Scotchgard and do it yourself. You need about 3 spray cans for your car (or maybe 2 if you have leather), and it costs about $10 a can. You can then reapply every 12 months or whatever (which is about how long the dealer stuff lasts too!).

The paint protection from dealers is completely useless. Just an expensive wax/sealant. If you're serious about PREVENTING stone chips and scratches on your paint, the only option is 3M Paint Protection Film/Ventureshield Stoneguard (same product). I believe it's available in QLD as Ducoscratch.

the VW dealer here rang me the same day ordered and told me that i needed it if i wanted to keep that 'new' look.... it wasnt a want, it was a need. They were going to charge me $2,000 for the privledge too.....

That was purely for paint and fabric protection, and specially 'today only' deal of free tinting....which ive learnt they all do.... that almost put me of the whole thing, i hate it when dealers do that crap......

Glad i didnt go with it. I got a quote from tinta car out of curiousity for EXACTLY the same thing; $900 with a free high pressure cleaner... still pretty expensive but less than half that of the dealer

after reading these forums im not going to do either paint or fabric (i will go down to bunnings and pick up some scotchgaurd though)

My head is telling me this is simply an extra income-earner for the dealer.

Mate you are really lucky. Normally the dealership has a stunner with the best norks you have ever seen try and sell you stuff that is only worth a tenth of what they charge. Saying no is really hard....but must be done.

I thought dealers had stopped pulling this crap. The dealer that I'm buying off hasn't tried it (yet). My car arrived at the dealer today and I'm dropping by to check on it and arrange payment and pick-up. They'll get short shrift if they are silly enough to try it.

I'm planning to pick up my car on Thursday morning and take it straight in for ventureshield and window tinting.

Why would dealers stop this? It's one of their main sources of income besides selling the cars themselves. Any dealer that has stopped it is a silly dealer

The past few cars I have purchased I have opted in for interior and paint protection and have only had good experiences with it so far! The only thing with the paint protection is that you aren't suppose to use any waxes or polishes on your car, which is fine by me! I would much rather spend my weekends on the golf course and not washing/waxing/polishing my car!I find my car still has that hot showroom shine even without the waxes etc. Also cause I got both the interior and paint protection – I got it for a pretty good price!
