Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 118TSI Votex and 18" rims

Took a drive out to Barloworld at Five Dock today to check this out, 118TSI with the full Votex Kit and 18" rims:

Would be nice if the 118 and the GTI were facing the same way. I'd like to truly compare two of the same colour - body kits and all. Nice rims, those.

That setup looks hot. In fact that is tempting my to consider the TSI with kit and wheels over a GTI. How much for the 2 options though? I would guess the kit is around 2k and the wheels around 4k? Anyone know?

Is the kit listed on Mavericks accessories listing at all? That'd give you a price plus estimated install time...

Bill Buckle quoted me $2745 for the full bodykit.

They also said the Topas 18" wheels were $2882. I'm not sure which wheels are on this car, but gives a rough idea of cost.

Does the $2745 for the bodykit include painting and fitting?

Spoke to a guy at BB who said that would be supplied, unpainted

Chatswood Classic said the kit might cost up to $2k to paint and fit, but she couldn't give me anything more than that because it is new and they don't know anything about it.

Maybe Barloworld will know, but I suspect that car came from the factory like that and they won't have anymore info either.

Result! Should have just ask Barloworld in the first place, very helpful.

They sell the kit for $2750. He said it comes primed but not painted.

They have a panel beater that they use for fitting and painting who does all their repair work and has already fitted a couple of kits as well. He said that costs about $800.

So all up, $3.5k for the full kit, painted and fitted.

I don't know anything about bodykits, is that a pretty standard price for one?

The full Oettinger Body Kit for the MKV (full replacement front bumper/grill/foglight mounts, carbon fibre front lip, plus more substantial side skirts and a replacement rear valance) cost $4k. It had to come from Germany (via HP in QLD and European Autotech at Mona Vale).

Painting and fitting cost around $800 (same as VW, except there is a lot less painting and fitting work to be done!).

So the VW kit is cheaper, but then it's just 'tack ons' rather than complete replacement parts, so it's a lot less substantial. I'd rather pay the $4.8k than the $3.5k

Though they haven't got one for the MK6 yet...

                        Love the wheels.
The colour coded sports kit looks the goods too.

                        Well worth the upgrade imho.

It looks like the rims are 18" Vision, they're on Page 8 of the Mk6 GTI brochure and are around $600 each. I'm thinking about putting them on my GTI when I get it next year except they will be 17" and $539 each.
