  • RNS 510 retrofit

Hi I am getting a RNS 510 unit from ebay. The only accessory supplied with it is a GPS Antenna. I have a 118TSI and want to replace the existing RCD 310. Does any one know, if it is really a plug and play procedure to fit in to MK6 Golf? I was told that it is quite a simple process and can use existing connections and speakers.

Anyone who had done the retrofit for RNS 510 to new Golf (MK6), please let me know.

its an easy diy. but you will need to recode using VCDS to enable the multifunction indicator and steering wheel.

Just got my RNS 510 delivered, it is from Europe and has come with Europe maps. Any suggestions for getting an Australian map - checked with dealer and they are quite expensive.

does anyone know how much it will cost to fit RNS 510 to MK6 Golf? I got an RCD 310 installed currently and have got an RNS 510 with me along with GPS antenna. I am not sure on how to do the coding via VCDS, so checked with VW dealer. They quoted 660 bucks to install..I think that is too much... Any advice or any alternatives that I can go for?

Check with European Autotech at Mona Vale. I don't personally know whether they've swapped a RCD310 with an RNS510 or not - but if anyone (excluding VW dealerships) has done this in Sydney, they have.

Just managed to get one from Ebay (never opened/used). So that solved the problem. I am still waiting for my GPS Antenna to arrive. Also today my car was towed off due to a DSG issue. So the fitting is not gonna happen for this weekend!

Had the dealer take out from my Jetta into my wife's new Golf6... they were confused because in the Jetta the mute input had been moved etc etc, but they sorted it out, and works nicely in the Golf6, even get aircon details as you change them, nice.

Yep I got it. I was actually reading a US RNS 510 manual. That is why!
Read a comment about how to override the motion sensor for playing video.
So now I can see the video in motion (not for me, but at least for co passengers)

you can download more appropriate manuals off the web or buy one from your dealer. I was told its about $22 but when I enquired, my service manager gave it to me.
