  • Was a while ago but then only problem I recall having was not being told what the PIN code was, tried the usual 0000, 1234, 12345, etc and then asked the eBay seller who said it was 6789, or was it 7890? Besides that I just connected to the device in the normal phone bluetooth menu, paired it (automatic connection), then went into Toruqe, settings, and from there.

    Can only suggest the following:

    • 6789 is the one. Believe me I've used Google.
I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Tomorrow I'll try again. Thanks.

ahah, those tyres probably explain why what you call your "OBD speed" is 97 kph instead of 100kph (someone else called it "ABS speed"). It'll be due to their diameter being different to stock. My guess: they are 3% larger in diameter?

I like your trick to find out the OBD speed by zeroing the average - must try that on mine. I already know my speedo is 4kph slow according to GPS (which is super accurate provided car's speed is steady, but slow to react when speed is changing).

        • No, tyre size was identical

          • I don't think I've ever owned a car that didn't have the odometer read slightly higher than the actual distance travelled. The golf is like all the others but the speedo is different again which takes some getting used to.

            • well I checked my average speed using Ryan_R's method against GPS speed and it was spot on. So it does seem the car is designed to have a very accurate "OBD speed", but then they deliberately make the speedo report a faster speed, typically by about a 3-5kph. This is probably because ADR rules require speedos must never report a slower speed, cos that would have innocent people getting caught for speeding. Does anyone know of a way of recalibrating to eliminate speedo error, perhaps using VCDS or similar?

Well, I've measured two tyres that are the same specification (e.g. 225/45ZR17) but different brands and the dimensions were surprisingly different, both in width and overall diameter. A 225/45ZR17 is around 635mm diameter, a radius difference of 9.5mm is all that's needed for a 3% difference in overall diameter

              • Advisory radar traps and GPS confirm speed offsets are the same

Well, if the new Audi A3 is any indication then the 1.8L TSFI engine (132kw) will replaced the 1.4 twincharger.

Will it still get 900kms on 50 liters of fuel on long drives?

                    • Sigh. My 118 only gets me 500km per 50 liters of 95 Ron gas. Mostly short trips and high ambient temperatures (25 to 32 deg C) with aircon set to 24 or 25. This after 10200 km mileage on it.

                      • How much milage do you get with 98RON. Should be noticably higher. I can get 800+ if I'm not driving spiritedly.

                        • No 98 sold here. Options in Trinidad are 92 and 95. Minimum recommended on the inside of the gas lid is 95. I think it's because most of my kilometers would fall under city conditions. When I do go on the highway I can get fuel Econ to reach 6-7 liters per 100 km as opposed to my average of about 10 liters per 100 km.

                          • 2009 GOLF 118TSI - Problems - Need advice!

                            Hi Guys,

Not 100% sure i'm in the right spot but I'm a newbie so be kind!! I've just bought a 2009 118TSI Comfortline. It was a private sale, passed the road worthy and an RACQ check and all seemed well with the world. Until less than 24 hours later the car wouldn't start. Turned out it was the mechatronics so after a rather scary wait (the car is a couple of months out of warranty) VW advised they would pick up 100% of the part and 50% of the labour. Problem solved. Then I was driving on Saturday and heard a horrendous squealing and grinding noise. Luckily my dad was in the car, pulled the tyre off and poked around and the noise stopped. So its back at the mechanic today for the 2nd time in less than a month.

I've read all the horrible things that have happened to people and assumed it was just the vocal minority but now I'm not so sure! Just wondering what the majority of experiences are like? Should I take the financial hit and get rid of it? Or is this just a run of really bad luck?

                            Thanks!

                            • Which wheel did he pull off and what did he do when it was off More info needed.

                              Possibly a stop in brakes.

                              • The squealing noise sounds like a stone in your brakes.

                                Horrible noise, but not uncommon.

Get to safe area, reverse with brakes half on tends to dislodge it.
