  • RNS-510 in 2010 models

I have posted this in the Tiguan forum but thought someone here could also help. I need someone with a 2010 model RNS-510 to try and use a SDHC card in the unit. Could someone confirm or deny that you can use SDHC cards without the 2660 firmware.

I could only get a 2GB SD card to work until the upgrade now an 8GB works and I believe up to 32GB, but haven't tried anything larger than 8GB

So if only VW would put a 60GB HDD in the RNS-510 instead of the 30, then combined with a 32GB SDHC card, I might actually be able to fit my music on the damn thing!

Or... you could just have 2 x 32MB SD cards and swap as required

FJ Steve... when you're paying over $3000 for that thing, I want to know what it can do. Obviously you don't care, that's fine but please don't try and lift yourself above everybody else here. Makes you look rather silly.

If you're this way inclined you could try swapping a larger HDD into the RNS. Some info here:

Yeah - That's what I'll be doing S.A. There is no way I wanna sit there swapping cards to get from one third of my music library to the others. Defeats the purpose of having a HDD based system.

It's just a shame that the RNS510 uses an IDE connection, so we can't swap it for an SSD (which are basically all SATA).

This is getting a bit out there, but there's some IDE/CF adaptors into which you could potentially put 2x64Gb CF cards.

They are supposed to fit the 2.5" format, but I'm not sure just how they'd go into the RNS.

The connectors are cheap ~$30 so if anyone wants to give it a go....
