Stupid question. What drives the Manufacture Year numbering? I gather there are only small changes to the configuration for MY10 (presuming it is a configuration management thing). Is every car on the way here MY10, now?
New colours would be good but I don't know when or if colour choice would be refreshed. A dealer hinted to me a while ago that Shark Blue may be on its way out as an option as they weren't selling well. I said I quite liked it (which seemed to openly surprise them). I would choose the mid blue that the polo comes in myself if I could, but hey ...

Black was the only colour my wife liked. Have a look on vw's uk site. There are solid res and blues, and even a green.

My new 118TSI is Shark Blue but two dealers I talked to both said the same thing, that it wasn't popular. Under light it's quite an interesting colour, sometimes looks turquoise.
The colour range is ordinary though, I felt I chose the best of a bad bunch.

The VIN number will let you know for sure. Go to about the 9th or 10th character. There will either be a 9 for the MY 09 or an A for MY 10. You will see how many people try and pass their car off as the newer model on the car sites, the VIN number gives them away!

This is correct - the VIN tells all (well, in terms of MY spec anyway).
Sometimes the changes from MY to MY are more substantial or attractive than others. We missed out on the larger MFD on our Mk5 for example. This change came in with MY08 spec.
But it worked out for the better with the S3. After I had ordered the car I learnt there was going to be a spec change on the nav system, so I put back the build by 4 weeks to take advantage of the changes.
There is a 2009 Golf in my local yard that they are trying to sell off that they say is the current model. If it is a MY09 instead of a MY10, how much of a difference would that make in terms of final sale price?
