I get it about twice a week.. Along with the "You've left your lights on"..

I don't understand why they have this set up. 2 reverse lights would be much better..

They could've just done this. They've got the space to have both, they should've used them (Like they did on the Touareg).

unfortunately the loom is not all there for LHD and RHD cars so you cant just unplug the fog and plug in the reverse to its wiring. pity tho.
with the beetle the reverse and fog lights are down on the rear apron section of the bumper... so i just tucked the wiring up into the rear of the bumper under the inner panel. cable tied it all etc to keep it from falling out and to neaten it up.

with sedans or hatches you would need to remove some of the internal panels and run the wiring in there.
hardest part of the job would be getting the correct taillight.
for the beetle it is only a lens cover that needs replacing (approx $70) so pretty cheap change... but for sedans and hatches it would need a complete taillight assembly (euro one) and i would guess this would be up around the $400-500 mark.

yep that's it...there were some polo euro-spec clusters for sale in another thread a couple of weeks ago. one of the guys over here bought a set which got me thinking about it.

Rear wiper is also disabled when the hatch is open. Same with the front wipers, you can't operate them with the bonnet up.

Golf 6 Question about the rear reverse light

            Hi All,
Just need a straight answer seeing as the dealer here is useless.

I have a golf MK6 2009 (november) with the comfortline model 7 speed DSG TSI.
When in reverse it appears I only have one reverse light on the one side. Are there supposed to be two lights?

            Thanks in advance.
            David

              Hi David,

There is only one reverse light....you are not imagining things.

The manual covers this and so does looking at the back of the car as you can see one red lense on the drivers side for the rear fog light and on the passenger side a white light for reversing.

If you do a search as well you will find this topic has been done to death.

They've done a slightly better job of disguising the different lights with the Mk6, but on the pic below (click on it for a larger image) you can see the rear fog in the left cluster and the single reverse light on the right cluster...

...it is worth noting that the fog light should appear on the drivers side of the car. The image shown above is a LHD vehicle, so on the OP's car the fog/reverse light arrangement should be the other way around.

Apologies if this has already been discussed elsewhere as I'm on the Tiguan forums as opposed to the Golf forums, but our next door neighbour has recently purchased a Golf (diesel, auto) and noticed that only her lefthand side reverse light comes on when in reverse. She took it back to the dealer and they said this was standard. Can anyone confirm or dispell this for me please?

yes there is only one, most european cars only have the one.
The other is a rear fog light.

EDIT: pretty sure the tiguan would be the same too!

Thanks. Tiggy is different as it has two small reverse lights just above the bumper.

Just for clarity, her tail lights are these ones:

If it's a rear fog light, why is it clear?

My bad, I thought it would be exactly the same as the Mk5 (which is what I have)..
perhaps wait for someone with a Mk6 to comment or read the manual

Why did she bother taking it to the dealer and wasting their time if she wasn't going to believe them?

She could start with RTFM which will tell her this, or she could look closely at the lights at the rear and see that clearly one is a fog and one is a reverse, or she could test it with the fogs and reverse light on or .......

The Mk6 Golf only has one reverse light on the left side and the other side is a fog light. The reason for it being clear is because it's a high intensity red bulb. If you had of looked closely you would see it's a red bulb.
