Can any of the members here who have taken delivery of a MkVI tell me if the new Golfs still have the single reverse light? Anyone able to take a photo and post it up? Thanks in advance.

Kinda strange if you ask me, they've got enough space there to have both reverse and fog on the inner cluster yet they still opt to have one of each..Last edited by maca; 14-06-2009, 10:52 PM.2002 Volkswagen Bora V5 - 2007 Mazda 3 GT - 1998 Ford Contour Sport - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T - 2013 Volkswagen Passat 130TDI - 2015 Ford Escape 1.5 - 2016 Subaru WRX - 2018 Volkswagen Golf R Wolfsburg Wagon

its just cos they would have to think of another place to have the fog light. makes it a little more simple. only just though. VW, go figure!
also the park lights on the hatch go off when you open the boot too. know why? pollution. really, you say? yeah thats so the alternator doesnt have to sun that little bit harder, draining power from the engine, causing slightly worse emissions. im not making this up, i work for vw, they told me this at training!
freakin germans, they think of everything

Surely it would be easier for VW just to have both lights in each cluster, like the Mk IV... the fog light is only plugged in on one side, but because they would be interchangable for RHD and LHD that means there's only one set of lights to be designed in the factory. With the MkV and now VI they'd have to have specific RHD and LHD sets. Maybe that's cheaper for them to design and build, rather than having the space for both lights in each side but it still seems a bit weird....
Clever by them if the lights turn off when you open the boot though! I wouldn't have thought of it'03 BMP MkIV Golf GTI | Oettinger tune | K04 | 18" OZ

you have to obviously change the wiring as the loom is not the same for oz and euro cars.
all you need to do is loop the wiring from the existing rear fog light over to the other taillight assembly.
i did this on our nbc so it has two reverse lights and no rear fog light. imho it looks much neater on the rear of the car.1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro

Ah well done. I was wondering if the loom going to both sides may have actually accomodated both circuits but only one was connected etc depending on LHD or RHD. Assume you just ran it through the inside of the panel work under the boot lid then.'03 BMP MkIV Golf GTI | Oettinger tune | K04 | 18" OZ
