Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I thought the test was pretty clever, and no real suprises. Russ the current 125kw would walk the 103 common rail in a drag, but the new active suspension sounds pretty flash for the curves! I'm not aware of a higher rated production diesel engine as yet???2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

Undoubtably the UK will get them before us, but from what I've read the 125 common rail hasn't hit actual production as yet. It is planned though!2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

Russ at this stage it's a single turbo 125kw as in the link above, but there is a possibility of a twin turbo beastie. Guess what the engineers hhave come up with, and what global profits allow remains to be seen.
Oh and the UK have had the 170hp GT diesel available for some years now, certainly longer than Aus.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

It'll be interesting to see how this new 125kw CR donk is received. Almost identical specs to the current engine but with significantly better economy... More car like sound..."One art please!" --->http://benno.redbubble.com

How does the fuel economy compare?
The i30 was a nice car, but unfortunately I got a lemon.
It had a new clutch at 1300kms, shuddering in reverse, vibration through the dashboard, clunking in the steering, sloppy suspension in the rear and to top it off it started blowing blue smoke on idle. When I got rid of it, it only had 3900kms on it.
The economy in the i30 was ok. Unfortunately I never got enough km's up on it to gain the benefit from it. Around town I used to average 6 litres per 100km.
But in the Golf I average about 6.5L per 100kms around town and most of the time I'm not driving very economically. On a trip I can get 5.2L per 100km in the Golf.
In comparison, I think the Golf is better on fuel than the i30. For the size of the engine and the torque/power that its putting out its just about matching the i30 which is only a 1.6 producing about 255nm of torque.
What really made me change to the Golf was driving Dad's GT sport.
Apart from the handling and performance, I fell in love with the pure quality of it. The steering, trim, clutch, gearbox, doors...everything just feels better made than the i30.

Post #15 on the thread below adds a little bit more info about the decision to get rid of the i30
