  • Mk 6 Golf.....New engines?

I'm thinking of a buying a new Mk 6 Golf, I have read on another site that some of the engines in the new mk 6 Golf are going to be replaced, I really don't wan't to buy a new car and find out that 6 months later the engine will be obsolete.

Does anyone have any further information on what petrol or diesel engine are going to be replaced in the current Mk6 line up?

The engines in the VI are a new/revised set of engines - a 1.4 turbo, a 1.4 Twincharged. and a 2.0 diesel turbo. The GTI will have a 2.0 Turbo, and the GTD will have a 2.0 diesel turbo with more output than the base one.

They will not be superceded soon.

For the Mk 6 GTI I expect the 2.0 TFSI (turbo petrol engine) to be the new version that has chain drive to the camshafts (but without the variable valve timing the Audi version gets). The US Mk V GTIs have been getting this engine for months.

I think the engines being replaced are 1.4 (which we don't get) and 1.6 which has already been replaced in OZ by the 1.4TSI

Golf 6 in UK market have bigger selection of engines, a few of which are "older" and thus will be replaced in the near future. But the cars for the Australian market use newer, revised powerplants.

VW may still need to rethink that decision because I think in this day and age and with the current world financial situation people still want variety and options and if they can't get it from a VW they'll look elsewhere

Just a thought ....could this decision be related to our diesel standards?

australia has had low sulphur diesel for quite some time now.

i think the gtd will come out but at about the same time as the gti. they practically look the same and have the same specification bar motor.

Or VWA for that matter, I enquired about the Pirelli about 3 months before it went on sale, I was told that VWA had no plans to bring them in !!!! I think they already had them in the country at that stage.

If they think it will help them sell you a car now (rather than you waiting for a different model to become available) then some salespeople will tell you almost anything

IMHO the whole business model of new and used car sales (commisssions etc) is almost designed to push sales people into behaviour that is NOT in the customer's best interests.
