How could be it any less exciting than the previous generation base models? If the car wasn't bland it wouldn't sell, if you wanted quirky get something French...

It's growing on me, was interestetig to hear the designer talk about it and the DNA etc etc. The silver one (comfortline with sport pack) doesnt actually look too bad IMO. the base models in any car are boring as bat sh*t though, still dont understand how steel wheels and wheel trims are coming out, the dont cost that much less than alloys and really cheapen the whole thing.
        currrently... MY10 GTI | DSG | Candy White | Sunroof | 18's | BT | MDI

The majority of people on the forums will most likely put their own style of wheels on anyway, so as far as the standard fit steelies and dress rims is concerned it must be a cost cutting measure, even if it's not saving VW a lot of money. Of course it could always backfire as well especially when a lot of other manufacturers are throwing in nice alloys to keep the sales figures healthy, along with other bonuses that are usually optional. As I understand it VW have a pretty good reputation for build quality, so let's just hope that they don't start to compromise on that all for the sake of saving a buck.

Even if it's only a few dollars a wheel cheaper for steelies, when you mulitply that by the total number of steel wheels they're going to put out over the life cycle of the car, it adds up.
              Nothing to see here...

Have you test driven the VI yet ? If not, your views are purely just on a visual weight.

Personally I am getting a little used to it but I am partial in my judgement until I sit in one and have a bit of a fang.

Really? Is there a pic somewhere that shows the car with the steelies? I really don't mind steelies and wheel trims. (As opposed to plastic wheel covers.)

Geez, you must be a very hard person to please!! I reckon they are a good evolution of the Mk5 and I love the dash a lot more than in my car. A very classy hatchback, for sure. Come on the GTI!!

Suprisingly, the more you look at it the more you like. Ok, i get to look at it everyday since I work for a dealership, but honestly it does grow on you. THe interior is a lot classier, and the front end is much cleaner imo.

Wait for Golf GTI, thats where they really look horn!

                          I agree totally.

At first I thought it looked a bit plain jane. But I think they will grow on you.

Same, I didn't like the look of the MKV tbh until maybe a year or two and the release of the GTI, I really like it now in esp. in the GT/GTI/R32 guises.

Of course it will. Same has happened with the Mk4 and Mk5. The tears in forumland when the Mk5 was released were almost too funny to be true in retrospect. Same will apply with the Mk6. Sure, there'll be some who don't like it, as with any car, but most VW fans will love the look. Even if they might be too slow to admit it right now.

                              I think they look great!
