Disappointed new owner of a golf gti 2012

Hmmmm... Looks like it needs a complete repaint. From the pics it looks like they haven't used the right paint code. And this is the reason why most decent repairers will paint the complete side so you don't end up seeing this sort of thing.

Can’t believe the previous owner wasn’t aware of the issue...

I was hoping a detail may help but the more I look at it, the more convinced I it will require a respray which sucks and not something I was budgeting for.

I actually believe the previous owner, however, if he did know it is poor form and not right.

I guess I’ll need to start looking for a repairer.

We can fix that on VWW.

Mate, as you said, if you are in a rush and in the wrong light you aren't going to see that stuff. You're probably too busy looking for the small stuff to actually pick up on the bigger issue.

As for the previous owner - he probably wouldn't notice a Harlequin Golf job either.

Haha, that is exactly what happened. I was told the car had never been repaired so I did just as you described, looked for scuffs/scratches, checked the boot, ensured there was no structural damage and totally missed the colour of the door.

After seeing your photos I'd say it looks like over spray.
Wash it, clay it, polish it. Then have a another look.

            MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold

              Hi Justcrusin,

I will give that a shot. I don’t really have anything to lose.

Yes if you’re not happy after you’ve done a clay bar I’d still take it to a detailer to get heir opinion/options before going the respray route.

Most crash repairers will just respray the side of the car which will fix it but also be relatively expensive.

                    Hi again,

I have been researching panel shops and trying to get some prices together.

Do you have any suggestions as to panel shops in Sydney who will do a good job at a reasonable price?

What should I expect to pay?

                    Thanks again

Had a carbon MK6 gti , it is paint that looks odd in certain sunlight and shadow and panels can look different , but that does not sound right .

I had a brand new Prelude VTIR in 1998 and went in for my 1000km oil service and the idiots smacked the left side rear panel into a post in the workshop .
Oh so sorry we have sent it to the best shop in adelaide and it will be fine , Honda had a grey that had hints of purple in sunlight , never right after that i always noticed a difference .

I know exactly what you mean by this grey looking different depending on the lighting. But this door is way off.

As for your Honda, I know the feeling. Once you see it, can’t be unseen.

Is it claimable as not an acceptable repair if you can find out who did the original job.
The big insurers give a lifetime guarantee I seem to recall.

another probably cheaper option would be to buy a second hand door from a wrecker. hunt around for a nice straight one and that way you know that its all factory paint and a similar age.
