  • Mk6 90 TSI cranks but won't start

    Hello all,

After work today, to my surprise, my car will not start! It has started without hassle or ill symptoms since new, and it has had no warning lights come on during my drive to work this morning.

My thoughts are that the battery is fine, as it still cranks. There's still half a tank of fuel, it has driven fine for the last 400km since the last fill, so not a fuel problem. So the only other possible cause are crappy spark plugs, assuming there are no sensor faults.

Has anyone else experienced this problem before?

    Thanks in advance!

Don't want to worry you but could be the timing chain. Hopefully not though, not sure the 90 tsi's are chain or belt. Good luck.

Not a fuel problem? Because it has driven fine for the last 400kms???? A engine needs 3 things, spark, fuel and air, if it has all these 3, it will work. You're missing one. Check fuel pump, check spark.

AKA take it to a mechanic.

Chain. Not common on the 90TSI to stretch thou.

I was thinking more of the timing chain tensioner but it might not have the same one that fails on the GTI.

Chain isn't common on the 90TSI, but they do make a noticable racket before they let go.

No noise or warning signs when mine went.
